I stayed here a couple of years back for a BJJ tournament in the same venue that MAP Meet uses : http://www.malvernguesthouse.co.uk/ It's just around the corner and Booking.com is quoting £55 today.
If you can get yourself to the train station, someone might well be able to pick you up from there I remember listening to an LP (ask your dad) of Aynock and Ali jokes at an in laws birthday. They were falling about the place whilst I was staring at the speakers in incomprehension. Maybe you could hire an interpreter? Mitch
@VoidKarateka Whereabouts are you? I'm in Shropshire, and will almost certainly be coming, I could take a little detour and pick you up!
Thanks for the offer of a lift, Hewho, but I'll be fine making my way. I've roped my cousin in so we're going on an adventure! I've seen LPs before. I thought they were really impractical plates though, my gravy kept dripping through the hole in the middle.
Simon and I were discussing a self defence video of JT's that deals with pre-fight verbals and positioning, we might look at a session of drills on that often-neglected area of self-defence training.
Ooh yes, yes, yes. I think this will be an extremely popular session and a nice addition to the MAP Meet. We've discussed running an hour long after event SD lecture but this may be a bit much after a day's training. Something for the future though and we certainly have instructor(s) with the necessary skill to teach it.
I've added the self defence to the first page line up as well as my session, which will be on savate.
Savate sounds awesome. I know a guy who's competed in savate (Judah Wheeler if anyone knows him), and I loved watching his fights. It looks like a great combat sport to take part in.
I think i will be repulsed Savate, me and French dont get along. (not going to lie, got it confused with Silat until i googled it just now. ) Do you usually do these things in High Wycombe or do you try to choose a centralized lcoation for the country or a specific region?
Some reason i thought it was in Lincolnshire. One of these days i will show up for one of these. (then you will ad hocly make 100 men Kumite or however many show up )
If you want to go I'll give you a lift. The Meets are hugely enjoyable and very friendly events, with people from very varied backgrounds getting together and enjoying training in different disciplines. Tai Chi, TKD, HEMA, Kung Fu, MMA, we have MAPpers from all sorts of backgrounds getting together, and ages range from 50's down to teens. Some are competitors in their discipline, some not, some have decades of experience, some not. None of that matters. We always have a brilliant time and raise a good chunk of money for some very deserving charities, and we make friends from all over the UK and beyond (Hi Latikos ). The point is that you should feel perfectly comfortable about attending if you want to, and you'd be helping others if you did Mitch
I would be more inclined to go if its closer, it does look fun though. Stranger danger also. so one of the closer ones in the future perhaps.
Takes a couple of hours to get there, so not long at all. You'd be in a car driven by a fully DBS checked Instructor who is regularly trusted with adults, children, people with learning difficulties etc. There would be other people present too. Wake up, get driven to a place where you can train with lots of friendly people, do a good thing for charity, get driven home. Sounds like a pretty good day @Latikos can confirm that I'm relatively normal
