I am no fan of kata...performing them that is...just not my thing However, I am a believer in their utility....but then you see something like this and - well it's frankly horrible in so many ways. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FISIY9s9S6U"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FISIY9s9S6U[/ame] Ironically she clearly has a physical ability level, but when every move is accompanied by stupid screams and noises that should only be heard from a nun after her first curry it adds up to one big steamy pile
Bloody hell there are more of these buffoons!!! [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuIIXFm9vd4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuIIXFm9vd4[/ame]
I've come to the conclusion that finding bad martial arts videos on the internet is like finding cowpats in a pasture. Not difficult and not rewarding.
It's more like picking at a scab...initially some guilty satisfaction followed by regret and extended healing time But you know you will do it again
Is it wrong I just want to smash them in the face with a brick? That's wrong isn't it? Just checking.....
It's a poor rendition of a kata found in Shuri-ryu (which is a composite system of karate, not a solid lineage from Okinawa), if I remember correctly. It came into a discussion on a Facebook group that quickly descended into the realm that caused the post to be deleted. It's not just the US that did this, it's sport karate in general, and even then it's not the practitioners that are at fault, it's what they learn to do in order to get higher scores.
I don't think you're wrong at all on that. If I'd done that performing any kata near either of my sensei's I'd have probably been beaten, lol.
Well for the first one you may have to review "How to defend yourself against fresh fruit." I think it's been a while since you've done oranges with earrings. This is a prefect example though of why training tools are not meant for demo. If would be stupid to demo your bench press or pad work to be subjectively judged and it's equally stupid to subject forms to it.
For reference I think this is closer to what it should look like [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lcmf3-EALc"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lcmf3-EALc[/ame]
it's almost like she's a new zealander performing a pre-rugby haka. but that's cool. this was horrifying.

When you stand in front of a mirror, perform your Kata/Form, and fall in love with yourself, your MA training will switch into a different path. You no longer care about what you can do, but how other people may think about you. You become a performer. This is why it always bothers me when people said, "MA is more than just fighting". Without the guideline of "martial", MA can be evolved into anything.
You know, that really ought to be put on a plaque somewhere. Spell checked, but otherwise left just as it is. That's an absolutely beautiful synopsis of the problem.
I now have a new goal in my training of kata: to make every movement be accompanied by a noise that could only be likened to a violent bowel movement.
Her ending hulk out pose just brought me to tears. XMA I blame you. I am pro Kata/Forms, being a KF guy, but vids like the above just makes it hard to defend.
