Does anyone know of any Bakti Negara clubs in the UK or around Europe?

Isn't it basically silat from Bali, with slightly more grappling than Javanese styles?

It's a Balinese system of Silat that is influenced by the regions Animistic traditions. It was also influenced by Vedic and Buddhist beliefs.

From what little i have seen, you are going to need incredibly strong knees because they spend most of their time working from a very deep stance that looks most uncomfortable.

But to answer your question, it does not appear there is a silat club that specifically practices bakti negara in the UK, however, given from what i garnered with a small search on your behalf, it seems as though most silat clubs in the uk just refer to themselves as pencak silat, so perhaps it would be better for you to find silat clubs near by and ask specifically about bakti negara, hopefully they'd be able to help you or at least answer your questions fully.

Thanks for your help qazaqwe, I did try doing a search myself but didn't have any luck in finding a Bakti Negara club anywhere in the UK. I appreciate your help anyway.

I usually see it spelled "bukti negara." That might help (though I don't think one is particulary more correct than the other).

It's an abridged version of Serak created by Paul de Thouars. So you could see if there is any Serak in your area.

De Thouars is often associated with Inosanto-lineage JKD teachers. So you might also try searching Dan Inosanto's website for UK-based teachers and inquire with them.

Bukti Negara is the sub-system that Paul Dethouars created. Ie. subsystem of his system of Serak.

Bakti Negara is a totally different system in Bali that was founded long before.

Here is a video of Bakti Negara:

Tigre was pretty spot on with his description! You can read about Bakti Negara in a passage in this book:

These blokes are much more upright than i have seen other Bakti guys, granted, most of what i know comes from a couple of rather dated books, on the other hand, most of that knife defense looks...i don't know how to continue that sentence politely.

Whereabouts are you based? I'm fairly certain there was a chap down Croydon way who was teaching Bukti Negara.

Bukti Negara is an entirely different system than Bakti Negara yes.

Bakti Negara is a balinese system which is made out of aspects of Javanese system. It's a relatively newer system of silat.

I'm a Bukti Negara practitioner for a number of years and teach it in the Netherlands. Bukti Negara is indeed a 'subsystem' of serak, although i wouldn't say it's not a complete system in itself, just a more public version of Serak, which is more closed door. Some people (like the JKD people from Inosanto lineage) just use certain aspects of Bukti Negara. However it's a complete system with specific type of hitting, kicking, strategy, entries etc.

I'm not familiar with any Bukti Negara practitioner in Croydon. There is a friend of mine starting up Bukti Negara classes in Rugby though, if you want i can get you into contact with him.

However if your interest is more in Bakti Negara i can't help you Tigre. If you want to find a Bukti Negara school in Europe, i'm the person to talk to ;-)

Thanks for the education guys. I stand corrected. And if the OP hasn't already, they should check out Taoizt's other post on the style.

I seem there was a place called Kora just outside of Croydon that was teaching Bukti Negara but that could have been some time ago or I coujld just be a bit confused :)

Yes you are right. Kora used to teach Bukti Negara under the guidance of Richard Killick (http://richardsackville.blogspot.com).
Lately he has not been very active, but if you contact him he might still be willing to teach.
