Footage of a girl in serious distress as she is forcibly pinned down into a split: Warning, distressing images: 5 teachers have been suspended.
I've not watched the video because I'm a sensitive flower but just the thumbnail alone is enough to send shudders. I thought this sort of thing was tragically limited to Chinese gymnasts. No adult or member of an institution which has a duty if care should be inflicting this on people.
Resident sociopath here: Watched it assault charges seem relivent/acceptable for them all. At the end there is citation to 8 videos like that the one they showed. It is also a news story. Edit: Does holding somone in those postions against their will and without authorty to do so class as unlawful detention or is a that a big stretch?
it would at minimum be cited as battery if they are going to get legally punished for anything. Its kind of hard to argue in a court you dont know forcing somone into a comprimised position as a sports/PE teacher doesnt hurt/wont cause harm.
Not sure if this is a well placed pun, or if you are undecided on the punishment. Seeing the video, I cry a lot like that doing split training from Van Zandt's thread, although it's self inflicted mostly.
Wondering what happened to my reply. Cheerleading has a horrible training / welfare mentality in America. In Penn and Teller's TV show called Bullpoop (actually the profanity). They did an episode on Cheerleading in America. And whatever people say about the torture of Russian/Chinese gymnasts etc...need to take a long hard look at what happens in American Cheerleading. Even in training, during tumbles and basket tosses, (when a cheerleader is thrown into the air and is then caught) there is no crash mats or spotters. This is because Cheerleading is not seen as a sport. There is one image, that I will always remember, where one girl is doing a cartwheel into a tuck somersault....she screws up and pretty much lands on her chest. On gymnastic flooring (which is padded but not that much). She writhing on the floor in pain and the "teacher" just treats it like it was nothing. No welfare, aftercare or anything. It's screwed up. Hopefully things have changed since that show but I guess some places still keep to these archaic practices. Do those teachers actually have training in these things?
