Why are all the heavyweights chumps?

Why oh why won't the heavyweights freakin unify the belt. I know they're all paper champs cause no one won it from Lewis. Please don't argue with me on this, I saw the fight and Klitschiko's face. Besides either of the Klitshiko's, Byrd, Ruiz, Brewster all have done absolutely nothing to keep or add belts. Some guys like Rahman win it by default not by fighting jeez! At least Toney claims he'll try to win Rahman's belt but when the heck is he doing that? Both those Klitchiko guys should hang it up they're good boxers but got no heart, or at least no healthy heart. Byrd please drop some weight and go be a great cruiserweight instead of staying a bad heavyweight. Do any other boxing fans feel as frustrated by the sport as I do? I mean I like Pacquiao and Morales but c'mon I weight both of them put together where are the heavyweights!!?? I've been waiting 3 years for a good match, was hoping Sam Peters would deliver but he looks just as bad as the rest after that Klitchko fight.

you know things are geting bad when matt skelton is going to be lining up a title challenge :p

the heavyweight division is in chaos, no real champion and no real contenders that will bring in the crowds. The klitschikos are average fighters, rahman was pounded by lewis, tony/ruiz/brewster..... lmao these guys are no hopers and are weak boxers.

i only watch the middleweights and lower divisions, R.Hatton and J.Calzage are doing britain proud :D

who gives a crap about heavyweights. the ONLY heavyweight fighters ive enjoyed watching are Ali and Tyson, because they could MOVE. 99% of the rest of them are just big fat sluggers. middleweight boxing is better than heavyweights by so much it isnt even funny.

you pretty much answered your own question with

What do you mean by better?? I don't watch much boxing, but is it the case that middleweight starts to outweight heavyweights?? :D

middle weights and lightweights are faster and more mobile... heavyweights are using the no weight limit as an excuse to overeat and just slowly pace through the rounds.

harrison, skelton, williams are all fat boxers, no two ways about it. They are a disgrace to boxing with their fitness and physique. Since the disbanded the super heavyweight division and merged the two, the quality has gone down.

i'd rather see some middleweight mexican boxers throw 200 punches a round compared to a "one punch slug fest" thrown by overweight sloths

Boxing, and inparticular the Heavyweight division, runs in cycles. We're currently in the same position as the late 70's (post Ali) and late 80's (post Holmes).

When Ali retired there was an absolute dirth of talent until Larry Holmes unified the division. After he lost to Michael Spinks we had to wait for Tyson to come along and clean things up. Tyson 'self-destructs' and we have to wait for Lewis and Holyfield to put some sort of respect/order back.

The condition and weight of 'heavys' is not a new thing - Witherspoon, Page, Tubbs, Tate, Dokes all fought for, and won versions for the heavyweight title in the 80's and looked like they'd spent training camp in the local doughnut shop!!

A lot of the blame can be placed with Don King. He controls just about every top heavyweight out there, so all a fighter has to do is sign with King and eventually a title shot will materialise.

What we need at the moment, is for one of the current crop of 'champions' to win the upcoming 'unification tournament' being touted by King and make a couple of successful defenses to put some stability back in the division.

Calvin Brock maybe the guy to at least hang around for a while - but other than that, I can't see where the next dominant figure is coming from.......

    Just my opinion..

I've been watching the lighter divisions too but I kinda get tired of dudes just dancing around landing mosquito bite sized punches, even if they come in bunches. Besides they seem to miss most of the time, half the time it's cause the other guys just running away, Hopkins comes to mind he doesn't even slip sometimes I've seen him literally run, or is just to closed up, just say some welterweight champ standing with hands up all ten rounds. Back in the days of Holyfield/Lewis/Tyson heck even Bowe in his prime those fights were full of punches and you knew they hurt. I do dig on Pacquiao and Floyd Maywhether though so the lighter dudes ain't all that bad.

Ikken I may have answered my own question but man I had to vent.

watched in outrage matt skelton beaten by danny williams. skelton clearly won, threw most of the punches(yes, and elbows), but come on, danny boy i meant to be our answer to the heavyweight crown, if so, i may cry for the 1st time.

the lower weights are more interesting and some of them can really hit :D
never thought much of Tyson, he fought guys that were mainly passed it, not like alivforeman

yeah the whole fight was scandalous, but then again what did you expect? Was good to see Khan laying down the law again. And Calzhaghe-Lacy is gonna be the big one anyway

I always thought that Lewis could be put in that group as well. He wasn't flashy but he had his basic mechanics down. Only time he lost is when he didn't train hard enough. He was just a few years too late because when he was at the top of his game there was nobody talent wise that could hang with him. If he had a personality he would be considered "great" but because he was quiet he is "good".

no offence, but americans generally like a loud mouth, thats why they went for prince naz.
Lewis was a great technical boxer and a very intelligent man, he got out when he knew his number was up. i had him behind on points to the big Klinko, he was saved by the stoppage

I see what you are saying, style of substance sometimes. Not my thing, and I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE Naz. His entrances made me want to grab a trident and throw it at him. One of the best fights I've ever seen was when Naz got his rear handed to him by this "plain" mexican fighter. I can't remember his name unfortunately. I might actually have the video on my hard drive somewhere. If anyone remembers his name lemme know. GREAT FIGHT!! Ok back on track, I liked Lewis alot though. I find it hard to not like a guy who is like 6'5" and has a GREAT jab. Have fun getting to him with that coming at you.

he got taught a lesson in boxing by barrera. it's a selling thing, american need to make money and they want to put on a show all the time, really bugs me, i would rather see a good match that watch shallow entertainment.

Contender was the same, what a load of reality TV rubbish, noone could see what hard work these people put in to training and the wrong guy won, and all those tests, that proved nothing about ability

Perhaps the problem with the heavyweight division is the fact that before, people who fight in this division was naturally for this weight. Now i don't know why, some boxer took huge size gain to be in the heavyweight division...but there made all in fat...so it a shame. For the lack of talent they try to compense by weight...anyway...only my two cents.
