Hello all, I am Ssangkall and I usually stay in the KS section and am venturing out to view the MAP! Anywho, I saw some vids on youtube the other day and saw a striking resemblance to our forms. Many argue KS systems are solely korean in origin, however these seemed so similar I had to show them to my instructor (Master Yang of Kung Jung Mu Sul). He said a long phrase in korean and then stated, "Dragon, Crane, Tiger, Snake. There are five animals, what do you know about them?" The matter-of-factness of his tone made me wonder, but all he said was that old martial arts are often similar. Here are the vids: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77eUHvCYO5I&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]YouTube - Snake Form[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF-DfEIJFSg&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]YouTube - Dragon Form[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFjlzsYe8Qc&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]YouTube - Tiger Form[/ame] and one more, but no matter where else I looked, the forms looked different. Does anybody know the style, because it seems like of the several southern five animal schools, none of the vids I have seen look like these! Hellllpppppp
http://www.swyi.com/styles.htm says only it's shaolin five animals, and gives a brief history, but no outside sources
Tiger looks rather southern stancewise. The amount of times he displays the hand position with just the index finger extended also makes me lean in that direction. Which doesn't mean it's originally a southern system,a northern one could have gotten "southernized" a bit over the years, those vids were filmed in Taiwan so the only way to know would be to ask the school. If these forms (not just the techniques) overall look very similar to yours you may have discovered where your forms came from.If forms look very similar they're related. They won't just happen to look that way.
