Khridoli Krivi boxing (Georgia) wonder when the documentary about it is coming out. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBrQ2f4kqeE"]Khridoli "Krivi" Georgian Boxing -Niko Abazadze in Bronx, NY - YouTube[/ame]
I think the Georgian arts are some of the greatest unknown treasures of the Western martial legacy. I can't wait to see this. And to add to the list: Kampfringen: [ame]http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=xfuMYqfmACM&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=iCS_tFVv-Ww&feature=related[/ame] And just for fun, a lighthearted demo of European dagger defence: [ame]http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=-0ninIXOkWg&feature=related[/ame] Best regards, -Mark
The first one is good but the short boxing sequence is anachronistic, I don't think anyone punched like that before the 20th century, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
There's very little evidence of how pugilism was conducted in the middle ages. Suffice it to say, might as well use the art to deal with as many types of punches as possible. In Roman times, the Celts (Gauls?) were known for being excellent strikers with hands and feet, according to (I think) Tacitus. Best regards, -Mark
I've got no doubt that striking was involved, but for modern boxing guard and horizontal punches, I'm not sure we see that before the advent of boxing gloves. From Nicolas Petter, we can see that the punch is made vertical: http://jfgilles.club.fr/escrime/bibliotheque/petter/images/72.jpg
