i saw richie havens perform live once. was at a friends wedding at walter payton's roundhouse (as it was called then) in aurora, il. the structure, as the name implies, is circular and was a former train depot. the center has concerts in the summer. and as the wedding reception is going along, we suddenly noticed richie havens performing. he was amazing, just him and his guitar. but the really amazing part....he closed his set with an a cappella version of "on the turning away" by pink floyd. it was unbelievable. we met him afterwards and he was amazingly gracious. this must've been mid-2000's.
RIP, another great one passes. Firing on spotify. When one of the greats passes, I listen to their music for 1-2 hours, remembering old times, thoughts related to those songs, shedding some tears, etc. A small last homage to those who made us happy.
My cousin worked with him on a production. It was one of the highlights of her career. The man was a legend.
