Damn Yoda, your pictures are inspiring me to take up my photography hobby much more seriously after I retire
took these this weekend: the eel freaked me out completely. not sure about the seahorses. i love the bottom one, but it needs to stand out a bit more. not the best pics from my weekend, but i haven't finished editing yet.
I never get enough motivation to post... but since everyone is jumpin' in on this new photo thread I might as well. Here's and ad shot I did recently for a hotel group... a very f&b type shot. Not entirely happy with the results but given that it was a rush job with a small budget... that's what came out of it. Other than minimal retouching... everything was done in camera. This kind of shot is a styling nightmare.
Meaning they only had so much money to spend on getting the shots done without having to clear it through the head office back in the states... with hotels anything over a certain amount has to be cleared by the stateside office. The chances of something like that getting approved are slim. So it means as the photographer you have to 'make the job work' on a slim budget.. so really it comes down to logistics.. that means no assistant, shoot less film or less digital thereby limiting the amount of time you have to spend retouching or scanning. Anyhow - enough of this 'work' stuff... back to peoples cool photos. ah ok... that depends... My price is based on usage plus expenses. Meaning I take into consideration the usage of the image. That means: 1) The length of use of the image (one off, 6 months, 1 year etc.) 2) The areas the image is used in (Hong Kong, Pan Asia, US, Europe etc.) 3) My expenses plus 1-200% markup - film/digital retouching/scans assistants/crew rented lights rented locations talent/models hair & make-up/stylist Basically it's the use of the image that is important. It's very rare for a client to do a complete buy-out. That is... to buy the image for their exsclusive use for all time as much as they want when and whereever they want. Why? Because a buy-out rate is very expensive. Generally in the USD 10K+ range. But it really depends on the image and client. This isn't a pricing structure all photographers use. I don't stick to it all the time myself. For example for news or editorial you couldn't use it. There is just no way. But for advertising and the like... it's the best way to go. The image posted is set up, styled and shot by me. Retouched by me and goes for about 26,000.00 HKD (= 3,327.46 USD). Which is probably about average (maybe slightly below average) for the low end with the usage they required. __________________
