for whatever reason. maybe a song you find cathartic, maybe one that brings back memories from a better time, or that helped you cope with a more unpleasant time. this metallica song is one of many that i attribute to never becoming suicidal and/or homicidal. I have 2 main ones: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1wJeL0qnzA"]YouTube - do i make you proud?[/ame] Song that made my mum cry after I first told her my plans to enlist and is penned as a cheerful one in funeral plans, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMgSL85JBlU"]YouTube - Mama Said (Live)[/ame] Not sure why but that one reverberates with me after everything I've gone through with my mother between her having cancer and when we pretty much fell apart a while back. EDIT: Ah remembered, the line about "need your arms to welcome me but a cold stones all I see" still manages to hit me hard after everything with her cancer battles and the knowledge she will die of it one day. Other than that I have a couple of metallica songs from the s&m concert that I look up when I hit my occasional moments of depression. I'm a cheerful person.
Fleetwood Mac - Rattlesnake Shake [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaTd_oItViI"]YouTube - Fleetwood Mac - Rattlesnake Shake[/ame]
This song means a lot of me. I love the music and the lyrics are amazing! It's about self-discovery, and not living like a robot or a slave to society. Not be afraid to be an individual, and to question the norms of the world we live in. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WAwU4uduCE"]YouTube - Scar Symmetry - Deviate From The Form[/ame] I transcend my earthly form Through some questions never asked before Question the need to be a machine That responds automatically Some words will trigger certain acts Just one of the commandments we have learnt Some acts will trigger certain states I think it's time to alter the game I'm changing You're changing We're changing from within Deviate from the form of nothing Deviate from the norm to something Deviate from the form of nothing I deviate, farewell to the tribe I receive clues that lead me To answers never seen before And find the final piece In the puzzle of reality Some words will trigger certain acts Belief in limitations we have learnt Some acts will trigger certain states I'm taking back what I gave away I'm changing You're changing We're changing from within Deviate from the form of nothing Deviate from the norm to something Deviate from the form of nothing I deviate, farewell to the tribe Soul volcano Now erupting Lava swallows What used to be Soul tsunami Overflowing Overriding Reality Soul volcano Now erupting Lava swallows What used to be Soul tsunami Overflowing Overriding Reality Deviate from the form of nothing Deviate from the norm to something Deviate from the form of nothing I deviate, farewell to the tribe
one of my all time favourite songs, don't really know the meaning of why that is just reminds me of getting up to face a new day I guess and good chilled out times. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZea7P9MwcM"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZea7P9MwcM[/ame] these two just kind of remind me of my favourite I dunno what you would call it weather/season/time of the day getting up so early on winter mornings that its still dark walking through quiet Scottish urban sprawls as they just wake up in the rain and wind on the way to work or school, iv always loved the feeling of being up in the morning while street lamps are still on and its raining who knows why and these songs just remind me of that. [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuPfbfJm2rc"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuPfbfJm2rc[/ame] [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g09GzbctlA"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g09GzbctlA[/ame] its been emotional (cigar for the first one to get that)
Damn that was good. If the rest of their songs are like that I think I'll have found a new favourite band.
Love the choices so far - especially Mama Said. The following track got me through a pretty bad patch when I first went to Uni (probably dates me a bit too ). You tube doesn't really do it justice - it should be played LOUD through a bloody good sound system (sorry, I can't find one with a good video). [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eksrcGRKAZU&feature=related"]YouTube - Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms[/ame] And if I can I can add another (love that sax solo): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InQxghlWMWM"]YouTube - Hazel O'Connor Will You[/ame]
James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover. It was the first song I heard after I found out dad had cancer, I had a shower that night and put the mp3 on (I had one of those cordless speaker things) and that was the song that came on and I had a cry. Now he's gone when I hear it I think of him, memories through my life of holding his hand and stuff. It's not 100% relevant obviously, but a lot of it is. I used to listen to it a lot when me and my fiancee broke up as well.
When I hear any song from Andy McKee's album Art of Motion it just takes me back to better times when I had very few cares in the world. Unfortunately the next year I came back down to earth with a bump and am just getting back on my feet now.
Yeah, they got heaps of awesome songs like that one. Check out the song Morphogenesis. You should get their whole discography...you won't be disappointed! That singer left Scar Symmetry not long ago and joined another band called Solution .45. They're also amazing!
We played this a lot on our family holiday recently and it is the song I'd sing for my kids as they are now, 3 and 6 years old. The poetry of "as leaves fall down, splash autumn on gardens" is worthy of Shakespeare and the innocent exuberance of "dreams come bouncing in your head" describes their time of life perfectly. Another one. I'm a minor fan of classical music, but the Bruch Violin Concerto rocks beyond denial. Here's the first movement. It's only 8 minutes or so. Sit back, close your eyes, shut everything else out for a few minutes and give your ears a treat. For me this is holidays with my parents, 6 weeks every summer in rural Wales. I'm bored so a couple more: My favourite song, always works whether I want cheering up, venting, getting pumped for training or just to kill time. Full screen with headphones blaring lose myself in it everytime [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmjNM85hbnA"]YouTube - Metallica - Bleeding Me (S&M) [HD][/ame] This one is, in my opinion, the best vocalist I've heard and pretty much anytime he picks up an acoustic and sings it hits something for me. Great bloke and I honestly owe a lot to his music for picking me up when I feel down [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZtHC6EwvL4"]YouTube - Staind MTV unplugged -Outside[/ame]
