Been talking to some guys from Songshan in China, they were telling me about something called Mei Hua Quan, a style that trains using stakes to stand on elevated from the floor. It's mentioned as the origin of chinese styles (though Im dubious about those claims of it being the origin) and its apparently related to the boxer rebellion.

    Anyone here trained it?

Yeah, I've done that training. Though, I've seen lots of different patterns for the posts...depending on what system/style/lineage/etc.

It is archaic, but still included in some wing chun families. It was very interesting. Takes a lot of training, practice, skill!!! Oh, and patience. :)
Perhaps that is why it is not so popular. haha

The form too has a few variations according to kwoon/style nuances

theres this too. At 8.45 it shows the sort of pole training they were talking about

Personally I think it seems something I might try if I were out in china to train

Don't fall in to spring of drowned girl. Or drowned panda. Or drowned anything.

Not sure what's meant by that but I never trust local water supplies wherever I go and steer clear.

Holy hermaphrodite! A RanMa1/2 reference on MAP!?!

Heck, I'd willingly dive into the spring of the drowned Sanshou Champion. But with my luck I'd end up in the spring of the drowned Shih-Tzu.

Ranma 1/2? I fell into the pool of drowned ichthyosaurus, which is convenient when I am swimming and hunting crustaceans, but inconvenient when I give live birth in the shower.
