Funny (and quite vicious) 1980s chair demo from the unlikely comedy double act of Bob Poynton and Terry O'Neill. There's also a very nice short clip afterwards of Andy Sherry and (I think) Frank and Jim Brennan.

it's also called paipuren, happoren, and probably a bunch of other similar names. it's a catch-all name for a huge amount of similar kata supposedly derived from one variant of this CMA form, which also has a lot of different versions:

Another demonstration of Masao Kagawa's absurdly flexible hip joints.

This is probably one of the reasons they call Kyokushin 'the hardest karate': even the referee can KO you...

Great comic timing and excessive levels of violence. It's like an episode of "Bottom".

I did particularly like Bob Poynton's beard grab technique.

Perspectives on Shotokan Karate. May we all be so fortunate to have an instructor/Sensei like this man.

Sorry, i can't resist. This is a badass fictional short film made to demonstrate the power of Shotokan. I know a lot of comments on youtube are saying that this isn't Shotokan but if you watch these two guys, and you study or have every studied Shotokan then you know it can't be anything else. Enjoy. It's a lot of fun to watch. Makes me wonder why we don't see more examples of Shotokan in American films.

It's a nice bit of fantasy movie fu based on Shotokan kihon and kumite sets (as they are commonly taught) with some dubious kata uke based kamae. Good cinematography. It reminds me of public demonstration Shotokan but with more blood.
