My Sifu, Sifu Duane Keller, studied under Sifu Ted Wong. His Si-Gong is Bruce Lee. So, he's after Ted Wong and the other 1st gens. Wouldn't Ted Wong be next to Dan Isanto, rather than under him?
Okay, the website (kwoonofjeetkunedo.com) says he studied under Ted Wong, Joe Lewis, and Steve Golden. Im going to guess Joe Lewis and Steve Golden are 1st gens-? I dunno about Larry Hartsell-
actually Hartsell would somewhat be a hybrid since he spent so much time with Dan, and I think he got a certificate from him too.
tel larry hartell trained at the L.A. school and trained privatly with BL.but is an instructor under inosanto.ted wong is under dan inosanto and taky kimura because BL gave these two highest ranking.as for other first generation students to many to name in the post
truth be known jerry poteet only trained with bruce lee for about a week or two. after he died poteet went to inosanto and had a crash course in jkd and got certifide.
sure jerry poteet had more then little training with BL and dan inosanto. but inosanto gave him permission to teach. dan inosanto does not just give out certifate
I just want to clear something up. No one was given a certificate to teach. Bruce Lee gave out a few certificates back in 67 or 68, not sure when but he abandoned the whole ranking system. After Bruce Lee closed down all the schools he gave a few people permission to teach a handfull of students. James Lee once wrote that he and Taky didn't make the instructors (or certify) only Bruce Lee had that authority. Bruce Lee is no longer with us so his students can do whatever they want with the knowledge that they recieved from Bruce Lee. So they can teach and certify people if they want to.
Very True, however I have a problem with this. This is why there are so many shady instructors that don't deserve to have the status of being JKD ''qualified''. Because expectations are not as high and certificates get handed out faster then little boys at the neverland ranch. :bang:
I don't think that "qualified to teach JKD" means anything any more, it did once but think about it, so many qualified instructors have trained newbies into becoming instructors who in turn have taught newbies to become, yes...instructors, and so, and so on, there are so many "qualified" instructors now that it has lost it's meaning and the lineage thing is now not important and when the first and second generation students are dead the new will reign supreme with new ideas. JKD has gone the same way as Karate did, and before long JKD practicioners will be wearing fancy stars and stripes kickboxing suits and wearing belts, all toooooooo commercialised now, and does anyone really care, at the end of the day it is just another martial art we are studying, personally it is another art to add to the other arts that I have studied. Now shoot me down in flames!
true but thats not what he wants U to think. have U ever heard poteet mention his training with inosanto i haven't. i have heard him mention in interviews several times that he trained with BL for 3 + years. but inosanto himself said other wise.
no agree he does not. but hey reason he's in magazines is because he knew bruce lee.BL is a great selling tool
Just got back from the Arnold Classic Fitness & Martial Arts Expo in Columbus, OH. I get on MAP, and lord and be hold more of the same. People that know what they are doing, don't waste time attacking over people. They are hear to learn....not trolling. They are confindent in what they are being. Trolls....beginers....people that don't want the truth out.....because they had something to loose " Money". Talk about others. LMAO, HKD you killing man! Where do you train...live...what facts do you have to back up you claim? Let the facts speck for themself....because fact speck louder the word my man !! p.s. my teachers record speaks for itsself .....What about yours? (as your record...I already know Dan Inosanto) John
good point, but if all those students had just moved on to something else and not tought what they knew even if it was just for the money, there would have been a lot of great info., stories and a big part of BL lost.
