You know neko is also the slang term for an effeminate man in Japanese.

    AKINA: spring flower

    KEIKO: adored one

    MITSU: surname meaning "shine; reflect."

    SHINA: virtue; good

YUKIKO: snow child (for a white cat)

KURO: black (for a black cat)

    MIDORI: green (for a green cat :D ;) )

    Female Names
Female names usually, but not always, end in "ko," which means child. Common female names include Akiko (Autumn Child), Haruko (Spring Child), Jun'ko, Keiko, Kiyoko, Michiko, Natsuko (Summer Child), Sachiko, Yoshiko (Good Child), and Yukiko (Snow Child). Note that all names ending in "ko" are not necessarily female. For example, the male name Norihiko.

    Male Names
Male names sometimes indicate the order of birth, using the suffix -ro, the counter for sons. For example, Ichiro (first son), Jiro (second son), Saburo (third son), Shiro (fourth son), Goro (fifth son), and so on. Common male names include Hiroshi, Ken and its many variants (Kenji, Ken'ichi), Yoshi, etc.

My friend had a cat called Mikita. But she (the cat, not the friend!) was a bit of a psycho, so I used to call her Sadako..... ;)

    Warning: Veering dangerously off topic

What is the appeal of that damn movie? I watched it with my girlfriend last year and while I enjoyed it as I have pretty much all the Studio Ghibli films it just had no point and pretty much nothing happened. I know its a very Japanese orientated film and I get the Romantic History and Shinto themes but Totoro is actually kinda creepy, he looks like he eats kids! PLUS the cat bus would have freaked me out as a kid, I mean you have to actually get inside it to drive around; who wants to be inside a cat!

On a related note I still must confess to having some Totoro merchandise sitting around my room. Im such a hippocrite :D.
