Well Blade, advice that serves me well is "relax". It's very simple, but when somebody ups the pace, it becomes hard to do. I found this link too, it's quite good: http://www.physicalarts.com/knowledge/kumite-and-sparring/219-36-useful-sparring-tips
Yeah like he could have explained himself so we could know what the beige heck he's talking about. and btw I think off topic at times is fun. Mods Gotta love em though especially cause they're so sweet and friendly and fun here and they do make sure we have a nice forum to hang out on. x Thanks for the advice, keep it coming if you got more for me.
WAVES BANSTICK IN A THREATENING MANNER... I AM NOT SWEET AND FRIENDLY, DAMN IT... You know, you try so hard to cultivate the perfect psychopath image and in one fell swoop you're reduced to 'sweet and friendly'! :bang:
Lower your centre of gravity, by lowering your stance. And always keep the knee of your supporting leg bent. Don't kick to high; go for the belly, that's where most peoples guard (elbows) ends. We use a kumite-stance that has near 90% of the weight on the front foot, this makes most sweep attempts fruitless. A good way to guard is turning the hip 45 degrees off (hanmi). You have a easier route for mawashi-geri and mae-geri, while having a smaller profile to attack. Lead hand (fist) in a straight line to your partners jodan, the other at your chudan with your elbows close to your body.
How could I forget... Have yourself filmed when sparring. My sensei filmed me a week ago during a kumite shiai. It's great for some visual feedback. Very confrontating. I also like watching others going at it. Look at how they move; where their weak spots are; look where their guard opens up; etc.
-ps That's the problem with english being my third language... Rereading this I couldn't stop laughing for 10 minutes.
Ooooo thank you! I hadnt learned the reasons for the 45 angle degree. I was just told to do that. he's bad isnt he Thats like the time people were talking about how donations help pay for this forum and i said about how they pay for my ass too and that got sigged by southpaw. I also couldnt stop laughing for ten minutes. Very funny! :hat:
There's a bit of improvement I think. Only been at it a few weeks. so I think it'll take a long time, to get good at it. I really have no idea how long it takes to get good at shotokanny sparring. I've just started to learn just a fraction of it so far.
That's great to hear! I have to admit, it'll be a lot of work, but you'll be kicking ass in an awesome manne
Blade96, have you been sparring since your last post/thumb ub!? How are thing going? Did the suggestions work out right for you?
