most later Bruce Lee films included an absolute plethora of martial arts styles, TKD included. and thanks to its western appeal TKD appears in most action films from hollywood. ie tomb raider, mission impossible 2 etc. the stuntworkers and choreographers are all TKD trained as it "looks good on camera". good thing or bad thing?
Wheres Korpy when you need him! im sure he could help here! Having said that he is a sucker for Van Damme! I dont really know of any TKD films, but ong bak is my fave. I thought unleashed was ok too.
Blood sport 2 and 3 have Grandmaster Hee Il Cho in, although the films are actually a bit crap. In 'best of the best' Grandmaster Cho plays the the coach of the Korean team, he's also in 'Fight to win' but I haven't seen it so I don't know what he does in it.
Search & Destroy (1980?) -starred ITF TKD GM Park Jong Soo (one of General Choi Hong Hi's right-hand men), Hollywood actors George Kennedy, Perry King (Riptide, Melrose Place), Don Stroud (Amityville Horror, Babylon5, 007 flick - License To Kill), Tisa Farrow (Mia's younger sister); -Vietnamese ally soldier (Park Jong Soo) gets fatal revenge on his former US Army buddies who'd left him to die during the war, picking them off one-by-one; -includes a scene where Don Stroud practices one of the ITF TKD hyungs (patterns); -filmed around the Niagara Falls area, look for the climactic fight scene towards the end with Jong Park & Perry King; -hard-to-find; not a great movie, but a collectible for any TKD stylist.
For TKD movies you've got to see the Best of The Best series. The first two are the best by far, although number 4 has some great mix of Taekwondo and Hapkido in it. Pretty much anything with Hwang Jang Lee is worth seeing. If you can track down his The Art of High Impact Kicking I'm sure you'll find it a very useful guide and shows just what the man can do. I think my personal favourite movie of his is Ninja In The Dragons Den, despite him having a small role the rest of the movie's action is fantastic. Ong Bak is excellent, but if you've seen that make sure you check out Born To Fight. It's got a similar feel and has some nice TKD kicking action. Also you might like to check out the Korean comedy Spin Kick about a Korean TKD high school squad. And also don't forget Arahan! Happy watching
I tried to find that on Netflix, but all they have under that title is a 1936 boxing flick starring Jack LaRue. :bang: Can you give us/me any more info on Born to Fight? I'd like to check it out. Thanks!
Yep The amazon link has a couple of reviews : http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AE4QCY/026-3794372-3755602 and there's a trailer (not great quality) for viewing here : http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmTv/trailer/player.asp?articleID=12183 It's well worth checking out
Yeah, I thought it was ok. but it's weak compared to his older stuff (once upon a time in china 1-3 NOT in china and america, that sucks!). Some of Jet's new films that I like are Kiss of the Dragon and the One. You should check out Hitman, there's a tall guy with a ponytail that seems to do Tae Kwon Do.
Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion... even if it's wrong SPL is possibly the best film to come out of Hong Kong in years and features Donnie Yen showing off his kicking ability.
