I'm interested in getting some equipment even though I'm just a yellow belt. Here are some of the products I've been contemplating. Please give me your opinions, or suggestions.

I'm learning a movement that uses Kamas, and , I saw this one and was drawn to its more "traditional" looks. I hear that the length of the shaft, and the weight are important. What say you? http://www.amas.net/item.cfm/RecordId/4020-MC.htm

I will eventually need sparing equipment too. http://www.karatedepot.com/pr-se-001.html#reviewSection

What other items should I consider?

    Thank you. :)

Sparing will be as far as I go. I'm a 42 year old mom of 2, and don't need to compete to enjoy. No kick to the groin could hurt more than giving birth. :lowblow: LOL

    Thanks

    my suggestion, ready?

    Get a Bob-sparring pro!

(upper torso of a man/water bag.)
    http://www.securityprousa.com/bobsppamaart.html
(click or copy and paste link, or google it!)
    Why?
They are great at enabling you to see/strike/practice combos, and increase speed/throat and eye strikes.
When you think you got the bob down, challenge yourself:

#1) very the height, i believe he goes up to 6ft 5 inch, or, down to 3 foot 11 inches:eek:)

#2) Then put clothes on him, and a beanie, why??
Try hitting the specific human targets like kidney's/bladder, when you cannot see the targets.
    Fun Fun Fun!:woo:

I've been thinking of getting some sort of punching bag so my son (5.5 yrs), and I can practice hitting/kicking with force. Bob is a out of our price range, but I will keep him in mind for the future. I like the fact that "he" looks human, it removes some inhibitions, and gives you proper training targets.

    Please keep the suggestions coming!

Rather than that full body shield, get a padded chest guard example here :

As for Kama I would find a shop you can "test" the weight your self as they are never as good as you think they are in fact the only decent weapon I've ever had from ordering off the net was a bo

Bo? That was my next question, (keeping in mind that I don't need to compete, but I would like to make an impact.) what kind of bo staff would you all recomend. To taper, or not? Ash, oak, or other? One piece, or two?
