Dear all I have been practising the 47 taijiquan form by dr ChiChiangTao for 24 years now. dr Chi was a topstudent of Cheng Man Ching (Zheng Manqing) in Taiwan. Upto now there is very little information available to the public. I would like to give him the credits he's due. I am collecting photos and other stuff (re: http://www.weiqi.nl/taijiquan/drchichiangtao.htm), but there must be so much more ... E.g. I have heard rumours of 8mm film of dr Chi doing the 47 short form, his sword form and push hands. Please: who can help me with videos and or any other material pertaining to dr Chi Chiang Tao (dr Qi Jiangtao)? English version: http://www.weiqi.nl/blog/?page_id=266
Het is bijna zeker dat niemand hier kunnen Hollands verstaan! I still understand your language to a reasonable level (spoken by no more than 20 million people in the world), but 99% of the readers of this site will not. Can I kindly suggest localising your website to English? - I am sure that there is a lot of usefull info there.
Maybe if you describe the TaiChi of Cheng Man Ching and dr Chi Chiang Tao, and its distinctive characteristics here, this will help? - and also serve to inform people. Myself, I like to see clear descriptions of TaiChiChuan, as it is often described in somewhat esoteric mysterious language that make it difficult to appreciate (the twists and turns of the Dutch language are even more mysterious however!) My knowledge and experience of TaiChiChuan is quite basic, but there are experienced people here on this site who should be able to help you.
the English version can be seen here: http://www.weiqi.nl/blog/?page_id=266 As for the description of dr Qi's form: dr Qi as I will call him from now on, was born in mainland China, he was an advanced student of Zheng Manqing. His short version of the Yang style is characterised by compactness (arms are held close to the body) and a very airy execution. The main point is yielding, no extraneous force is used, hands and arms move only slightly. dr Qi has never started his own school or sought publicity, but was very important to the introduction of taijiquan in the Netherlands. One of his students was Ruud Westerkamp, who by means of his BOCAM training institute trained taiji teachers. They all spread dr Qi’s 47 posture form. Up to today no known video recording has surfaced for us to watch. I know they are out there, but none of the rightful owners has succumbed to my pleas for publication. dr Qi was also instrumental in popularising taijiquan in the UK, where he trained o.a. John Kells. The only recording open for the public are those made somewhere during July 1976 in Taipei. They can be found at http://www.thetaichicentre.co.uk/resources.html
Maybe try posting an article to TaiChi magazine via Ronnie Robinson? In this way, you can get attention drawn towards dr Qi's contribution and input to UK and Netherlands TaiChiChuan somewhat more formally recognised? http://www.taichiunion.com/magazine.php All correspondence and enquiries: Ronnie Robinson - Editor Tai Chi Chuan Magazine 1 Littlemill Drive, Glasgow G53 7GF Scotland UK Tel: 0044 (0)141 810 3482 Mobile: 0044 (0)7774 985411 E.Mail: Ronnie Robinson
lsP- to aid in your search ,suggest you refer to him in your requests/searches as Dr. Tao,rather than Dr. Chi-is what he is commonly known by,at least in the US.
