the CLF sifu in this thread has been accused of lying by his class mates for the past 15 years, some of the rubbish he claimed and was called on are as follows: claiming to have been adopted by his master as an orphan when it was pointed out to him he met his master in his 20s (s he hadnt ben in the country until then) and was never adopted as his parents were still alive he ignored this 2) claiming to have learned monkey kung fu in the park with a secret master, when his fellow students pointed out they say him making the set up in his school he ignored this, 3) claiming 10 blackbelts and a background in thai boxing which he could not verify Anyway finally someone got bored with his lies (this time on a documentary in new york) and called him out and heres the fight video [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlSJ-fGtxJw"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlSJ-fGtxJw[/ame] why post this well? firstly im amazed that in this day and age such an obvious fake who has been called out by his seniors countless times can still be teaching and making money, and become an instructor with no fighting skills secondly for the love of god people please keep your hands up when fighting! seriously there is no reason not to be drilling your combinations against a gloved up opponent so both of you are learning to hit and deal with being hit. Everyone can do this kind of drilling from day 1, then add body only sparring and then controlled sparring with headshots,
lulz.. Where was the CLF? Seriously, the big guy might have been imposing to a lot of people but the CLF guy fought with his hands down, was mostly defensive (no offensive movements or techniques) and frankly didn't exhibit what would might be expected considering the styles reputation. Interesting that he showed up in the first place. More interesting was the performance considering that their schools were supposedly fighting with heavy contract regularly. Any idea when this happened ice field? LFD
I think within the past month, if you youtube sifu Gus or david ross there are a lot of vids about the issues within the CTS group, David ross posted this this week on another forum so it only just happened. The original documentary which kicked of this latest spat is on line somewhere, I think on david ross’s youtube page Black Taoist has always been a big talker but at least he spars and is willing to step up, and I believe his bagua background is extensive and he has trained with a lot of senior teachers and masters, still not sure what exactly bagua is meant to look like in a fight though I do think he took it easy on Gus after a while, he started only throwing body shots and not pressing forward too much As you say its interesting Gus showed up, normally he talks a lot then disappears never to be heard from, maybe he finally believed his own hype and thought he might actually be able to win….. I also found his performance interesting, not what you would expect from a school owner who says they spar regularly and who claims to have had a lot of fights and always won Im just amazed that in the internet age people can still make a living whilst lying to the public, and students will still stay with them even when they are caught out and spend good money with them
Once again we see a match between so called "traditional/non-sport" systems and it always ends up looking like really, really crappy MMA
Some background on Kaparos The "annotated" version with fight footage spliced [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPLnrJENFk0"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPLnrJENFk0[/ame] The "full version" of the interview [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMoojJ8h8Rs"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMoojJ8h8Rs[/ame]
Terrible guard and stands about like a bloated potato waiting to be hit. I don't think he attacked the other chap even once, beyond the odd half-hearted probe. Footwork and body movement looks dubious. No wonder folk think TMA sucks.
Gus has a loooong history, this is just his karma showing. http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=64119 http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75610&page=7
Oh and Sifu Novell deserves some slack from the MMA crowd. The UFC sent him a cease and desist for using a bagua/octagonal logo... http://www.change.org/petitions/help-stop-ufc-monopoly-over-octagon-shape
Not a bash more a lament on the state of Chinese martial arts in general, i personally had hoped the internet age and the rise in popularity of mma would come to mean frauds would not be able to make an easy living out of kung fu and people would move towards more practical training, and yet here is an example of someone who was caught out over a decade ago telling lies to his students still doing the same thing now, and whose training obviously is still woeful in regards to actually preparing hum and his students for actual hard contact. I can understand people getting away with teaching rubbish and making up lineage in the 60's and 70's and even 80's, but today its so easy to check a teachers lineage out and to see examples of good training why do people still flock to frauds like Gus? His training brothers very publically on a number of forums back in the day called him in his lies yet his students defended him, and stayed with him even though he continued to make up both his lineage and teach ineffective stuff, why does kung fu seem to attract those who bury their head in the sand like this?
Ok let's look at the positive 1) Guys willing throw down 2)......... I am sorry but the "chi master vs MMA" guy did that too and I don't see much constructive to say about him either
There is strength in numbers, and the truth shall set us free. It is what it is, at the end of the day. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Just sayin...
So has anyone here seen/can anyone post a TMA fight video that they thought showed good fighting and that exemplified the art on display?
There are plenty. Did you have a TMA in mind? Name it, then someone with enough background in it might be interested in posting a video.
Choy li fut would be a good start, but my question was genuinely asking about any. I see lots of posts bashing people, styles and training, so I thought some positive examples of good martial arts would be a useful addition. I am especially interested in what details people will point to that highlight the various systems in action.
