Wondered if you Brits could help me out and give me some ideas for slang words or phrases that the youngsters are using these days *shakes fist* (bloody kids!!).

What I am looking for is a whole bunch of random spoken slang for work. It can be anything, on any subject...whatever. As it's for work and aimed at people between the age of 8 - 18 it has to be free of anything remotely naughty.

Preferably British slang as well...the kids are learning English after all. ;)

There's a ton of stuff on the net, but I am not sure how authentic or how common it is. I really need a trip home.

Fire away! If I could get 15 - 20 that would be awesome.

Wouldn't want to contaminate the refined, little delicates, would we?

"Jangler" - bit of a talker (mostly Liverpool).

    "Gat" - gun.

    "Whip" - car.

    "Fatty" - attractive girl.

I think "gat" is American, not English. *spits*

How do you get "fatty" for an attractive girl?

    Scaff - Scottish for tramp

Boggin' - looks tastes or feels horrible

    Naff - stupid

    I think I've got more.

    Bob/quid = £1
    A ton = £100
    Monkey =£500

Taking the mickey = taking advantage or mocking a person/object.

I just realised its hard to think what I actually say, mixed in with whats MAP friendly

Also I dont use cokney slang but some of my friends still do..

That's the hard part. I've got a ton of stuff, but it's all aimed towards adults.

That's interesting. Got some good stuff on that too, but I wanted something more general. I used it the other week and the kids had a great time with it...once they got over the initial confusion.

It *might* be pronounced Phatty... as in "dat phat ass bro".

If that's true, maybe I should stop calling the teenage boy in a chat I use more or less regularly "Fatty" :D

I think this may be an exercise in futility, the internet has massively changed slang for young people.

we have a lot of shared internet slang across different countries now.

but a really british one (from joey essex) is "reem" (it means cool apparently)

Good to hear your professional opinion on the subject - I'll tell them that when the kids ask to learn some slang; "No, sorry, waste of time, some random guy on the internet says so".

    a bit of an overreaction...

when i walk through london i hear more kids saying "yolo" or "hashtag-whatever" and none of the stuff i used to say (wicked, hectic, we got beef)

The wretched young people of nowadays still seem to say 'sick' when they mean 'jolly good'.

True. But these kids are Russian or Russian speakers, stuff like "quid" or "Taking the mick" isn't known.

    They've all got swag though.

Another really irritating thing that kids say nowadays is the 'feds' when they mean the police. Obviously it's copied from US slang, but it sounds utterly ridiculous when used in this country.
