Taekkyon: A fluid, dance like martial art known for its kicks, sweeps, and takedowns. Capoeira: A fluid dance like martial art known for its kicks, sweeps, and takedowns. Well I'll be... This honestly weirded me out when I first heard of Taekkyon. I'm curious, are there any other martial arts styles that are like this?
Some FMAs have a stepping pattern similar to the Taekkyon pattern that looks something like a reverse ginga, though their focus in terms of strikes is quite different. They are known, of course, for knife and dagger work and early capoeiristas in Brazil were notorious for their use of razors, daggers and knives. The similarities, in my opinion, are simply coincidental and down to the principles for fighting, for 'dueling' and the selection of deadly weapons have been similar across the planet.
Interesting. I've tried to look into something called El Juego de Mani based in Cuba that seems like a sister art to capoeira, but I can't find any reliable sources.
Not much out there on it, though there are a few things on ladjia/l'agya and moringue, which are related Afro-Caribbean arts.
