i know what BJJ is but im looking at this schools belt requirements and it seems to have a lot of what you would find in BJJ but is called gaijin-ryu...
That is *not* BJJ. It appears to use the same belt system and be similar in other ways, but it is not brazilian jiu-jitsu. The founder was a purple belt in BJJ under Carlson Jr as of 2003 and is a nidan in Judo, as well as seeming to hold rank in hapkido and kenpo karate. This would explain the similarities, but its inclusion of striking techniques and other standup would seem to differentiate it.
I see why this site is confusing. A japanese name, yet nearly all the pictures are with BJJ practioners. This is a self made style which looks like a combination of the styles the guy has trained in.
