    google is your friend here...

but a brief summary. it was created fairly recently by an artist who was convinced that cma were becoming more about forms, superstition and less about practical training methods and fighting.

so he created his own art called yiquan, also called dachengquan.

it is derived from the founder's experience in many arts, but particularly from hsing yi quan.

players of yiquan will practice large amounts of static and near static postures, continually seeking deeper relaxation and the feeling of whole body movements. to aid this, imagery often plays a key roll.

once comfortable with that, bigger slow movements are introduced. and finally fast, explosive movements are used.

none of these movements are performed in a linked form. they are all stand alone exercises.

partner exercises like pushing hands are used. a bit like a cross between tai ji quan and wing chun chi sao.

pad work, bag work are also a big part. it's mainly a fist fighting art, though it does train knees, elbows and a few kicks. but it's not like tai ji quan which is more of a very close quarters/grappling thing.

Many thanks. You've given me a much clearer explanation than I found on Google! :)

    Manchester

Hey, I do Xingyi and am in Manchester. Haven't really found much in the way of schools for the internal arts, though, so I train alone. I would be more than happy to meet other IMA people.

Hey, I'd be really interested to know what the scene is like in Beijing, especially for Bagua. Would appreciate any information. And how was it like, to to train with Yao Laoshi?

Dont think there is any yiquan classes in Stockport

But if you want Kung Fu, you could always try Wing Chun at the United Reform Church in Heaton Moor, on Monday and friday Evenings.

    Hadster,

Are you enquiring in regards to Yi Quan in Manchester/Stockport? If so, we used to have a member (banned now) who was teaching (?) / training up there, also I think his teacher was around that area too.

If so, let me know, I think there may be a way to get in touch with him via youtube.

    Hi,
    Thanks inthespirit,
I am looking to train in manchester as travelling down south is too much. If anyone wants to get together or find this guy who teaches then that would be great.

No worries. The guy I mentioned is here on youtube, if you have a youtube account just send him a message, he’s a pretty chilled out and straightforward bloke, can mention inthespirit from MAP directed you there and sends his best:

He used to post on MAP using this account:

From what I remember, his teacher is/was this guy:

    http://www.jin-long.co.uk/

Though it does not state on the site that the guy teaches Yiquan, but I do remember him saying that he does not teach it unless asked or something like that…

Also, forgot to mention, I did a few seminars with Karel a good few years back, he is a really good teacher and has a very fine sense for adjusting students mistakes.
