Tonight's workout was..... went trick or treating with the kids.... try to keep up with them for about 50 houses and you too will have a great cardio routine....... Happy Halloween
Having a real bad day Last night Dumbbell bench-press 25lbs Dumbbell bent over rows 25lbs Dumbbell military press 20lbs Dumbbell curls 25lbs Dumbbell reverse curls 20lbs Dumbbell wrist curls 15lbs
Watch doing too many of the reverse curls...those are bad for aggravating tendinitis/tendonosis - especially lateral epicondylitis. You're doing a lot of isolationist routines, any particular reason for that?
Because I can’t do what I use to do because of my knees and right hip. I hated isolations when I was younger, I had no use for them and generally went for muscle groups I was real big on 1) Dead Lift 2) Squat 3) Bench-press aka. weight lifting holly trinity Also doing a standing one arm press with a barbell, not a dumbbell, because it worked more muscles for stabilization, and Rows were pretty good too. And I worked heavy, or at least much heavier than I do now Dead Lift > 180lbs Squat > 120lbs to 130lbs (this one I can't exactly remember how heavy I got) Bench-press > 150lbs standing one arm press with a barbell > 50lbs and it was low rep, 1 or 2 sets of about 5 to 8 reps Rows were on the Total Gym, and they still are (Straight cable and cross cable rows) I realize others go heavier, and I would have too, but I was doing this solo with no spotter, so I went only to where I felt it was safe to do so
Currently wondering if I should not go to body weight exercises with a return to yoga for a little while...... must think
Notice this, and I can't make sense of this I train Martial Arts, Lift Weights, and hop on a stationary bike and I gain weight. I train martial arts and do yoga I lose weight. I have been thinking about this all weekend and looking at the times I trained Yoga as well. I don't lose strength and I gain flexibility too...... The only thing I can come up with is possibly I am more aware of what I am eating....
Day off So far: Pushups 12 wide 12 normal 12 narrow Pull-ups (have not done these in years) 3 good ones Chin-ups (have not done these in years) 2 and that is likely stretching it after the pull-ups Dips ( have not done these in years) 5 Dumbbells Bench Press 20lbs - 2 sets of 12 Seated Military press 20lbs - 2 sets of 12 Bent over row 20lbs - 2 sets of 12 curls 20 lbs - 2 sets of 12 reverse curls 20lbs - 3 sets of 10 wrist curls 20lbs - 2 sets of 12 wrist twists 3 lbs - 2 sets of 12 Yang Long Form Hope to get yoga in later today
Pull ups are more difficult than chin ups - not bad at all considering you've not done them in so long. I start out with less than that if I go any period at all - a few months - without doing them or my weight goes up above 205 (usually slacking off in the former is a sure gain in the latter) Mind if I ask your weight? ( you can PM me, as I'm cutting back my 'social media' to focus on other stuff) keep at it.
Pull ups, I am defining as reverse grip, chin-ups as grip facing forward.... I may have that backwards. And it was probably 2 good ones and one not so bad and then fail. PM Sent
Well then.... it was Pull-ups (have not done these in years) 2 and that is likely stretching it after the pull-ups Chin-ups (have not done these in years) 2 good ones and 1 not so good
I'm watching to much news these days and it is filling full of Haikus..sorry Russian, China, USA terrorism bring together when peace never could As to training Yesterday morning > Yang Long Form, fajin form, fast form Evening Short weight routine last night Body weight squats - 3 sets of 10 Dumbbell Bench press 30lbs dumbbells > 2 sets of 10 Dumbbell Bent over rows 30lbs dumbbells > 2 sets of 10 Crunches > Regular 30, legs and head up > 10, Full sit-ups > 10 This morning, Chen style Chan Si Jin (Silk Reeling)
Well, it appears my left shoulder is done.... it is insisting I take a break from lifting weights...so...time to focus on Taijiquan and Qigong Now in my youth I would have said...yeah...like I'm going to listen to my stupid shoulder...and kept on going until I couldn't use the arm at all...been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and the coffee cup...for multiple body parts...but in my geezerdom...I know it takes a long time to heal so...I think I will listen to the shoulder....
OK, Shoulder is once again useful. But I have decided to bring my Bowflex back into my training routine, since, IMO, it is great for rehab. I will be using the Total Gym and the BowFlex and Dumbbells will only be for Curls and Reverse Curls. Also discovered that since my knee issues I walk much slower than I use to and I thought it was just age and infirmity. After keeping up with my oldest for a few days my legs were stiff and sore. I realized it was not so much age and infirmity as it was atrophy from lack if use so I shall be speeding up my daily walks and hitting the treadmill at home with a bit more speed than I was doing last time I used it.
You wanna know something? You are absolutely right about this. I've been putting my youngest through his paces in order to supplement his school wrestling programme and I had to demo a number of the flexibility stretches and whatnot for him. I'll be hog-tied and sodded if I didn't find myself much more limber and quick as a result.
