Recruiters fudging facts to make quotas is as old as the idea of voluntary enlistment in the military. Sorry you experienced it first-hand. I remember reading a story of a guy in WWII who selected two-engine aircraft training and went all the way through it because he wanted to fly a P-38 Lightning. At the end, he was told that P-38 pilots were taken from the fighter school, not the two-engine school, and he would only be allowed to fly bombers.
