Whilst on holiday i discovered perhaps the most total body exercise known to man and woman. Some of you may scoff, some of you may sneer and some of you may hold me as a pariah to the martial arts and fitness world.

If you do not believe me just try it out. The new work out revelation????

    Pole Dancing.

Ha i hear you saying, but trust me its bloody hard work. One of the bars i was going in on holiday had a pole, so naturally after a few lager shandy's i thought i'd have a go. It gives a workout to all the areas you need to train.

Aerobic in the extreme, upper body strength from lifting yourself up, lower body strength from gripping the pole, flexibility from the dips, squats and swings round the pole. Can even condition your shins from kicking it!!

Its the new cross trainer, all i need is a scaffolding pole and some concrete and i'll have one at home, i'm thinking of doing a video!!!

I even did some research, into some of the more advanced moves that can be performed to refine our workout, as with all research it required a lot of close scrutiny of the experts in the field. I must say at the end of the research i was quite faint, with the blood rushing from my head.

Andy Murray Sadly passed away. Rest In Peace.

Do you wear a cozzy when you do pole training Patrick?

What's more, if you were to run a seminar in pole work, would you charge admission, or would notes slipped into your trunks be acceptable? :D

I think Mr Murray that you are not embracing the massive potential of the art of the pole, and as for your questions, the proper training attire for the begginer is a thong, and a i dont mean a flip flop, for our Australian cousins. That way you can use the friction of your skin on the pole to take the training to the next level.

Seminars will be conducted in certain, specialist locations with various guest instructors invited to give short demonstrations, which will be paid for by the individual straight to the guest instructor, as with the construction of the training attire, it may be required to place this into the garments of the instructor.

Kinjiro Tsukasa I'm hungry; got troll? Supporter

Are there any non-sleazy places to learn this? I'm trying to imagine pole dancing as a class at the local gym. Or in the adult education program at the high school. Hee.

Pole dancing is a great workout - you do know all those strippers started out as 20 st weaklings right? ;)

Actually it really is currently being touted as the next big thing in exercise so you should be able to find a class, probably running right after the Tae Bo class at your local gym :)

Or just click on the "virtual poledancing" link and then practice on the nearest lamp post

Well, I suppose you could use a wooden pole and when you'd finished dancing you could snap it in half TKD style. That would be new and unusual...
