Saturday, June 12th a local venue here in my state will be featuring a 12 round World IBU Super Middleweight fight alonfg with a special feature 10 Round Unified Female World Junior Welterweight Championship with the Unified World Champion, Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt from Narragansett, RI 13-2-0, 5Kos' vs. Four-Time World Champion Couch 23-6, 8Ko's from Fleetwood, England plus 5 bouts.

On the off chance that I might go check this out I began to find out more about Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt and Jane "The Fleetwood Assassin" .

Which then led me to this interesting site.... History of Women's Boxing

I can honestly say, if I were 25 years younger I would seriously consider womens boxing!

Laila Ali . There was an interesting piece about her on transworld sport a few months back. Because she's a muslim, she's inspired a lot of muslim women to take up boxing/martial arts, apparently. They showed a girl's boxing club in Calcutta that's run in a park/ people's back yards. The girls don't get much chance to do any other forms of sport because of family and community pressure. Now they have Laila as a role model. Here's the bbc report of the same story:

Make's me feel spoilt having mats and good training kit. :)

    Also, here's Laila Ali's homepage:
