I very curious about this because I am currently reading about Chinese history (1850-2009). I was really interested in the part about the boxer's rebellion as it is commonly known. Most of the movies I've seen have shown him helping the boxers kick the dirty foreigners out of China. However the book made no mention of him at all. What did he actually do to become so famous?
He didn't suceeed in kicking the dirty foriegners out of China,that's for sure. He was well known in his day for his medical practice and his Hung.He's only so well known outside of the Hung brethren due to his fictionalized adventures in print and cinema,which stretch back for decades and decades. His real claim to fame is being the more-or-less-nominal founder of the Fu Hok branch of the Hung Gar,the most common of the Hung practiced today.
