as a martial artist I would have to say the bananarama version, its just so much more relevant to the general content of this website....... that and I have never herd of shocking blue.

Due to my advanced age, :) I'd have to say Bananarama. It was MY decade.

Bananarama, because (1) I remember them, but I never heard of Shocking Blue; and (2) it's still on the radio, but the Shocking Blue version isn't; and (3) it's just all around a better song.

Shocking Blue was way back. They wrote Venus, a song about the Roman Goddess. Bananarama redid the song in the 80s with a kick ass music video. Great band bananarama.

When i first heard this song (Bananarama version) it sounded like she is saying something rhyming that starts with P. Am i the only one?

I've merged these threads into one super duper mega thread where we can all compare original songs with covers and discuss which is better. Enjoy! :)

Well since I seem to be the only one who can remember the original version of 'Venus', I'm going to choose that one. I actually prefer the vocal on the Banarama cover, but the instrumentation is far better on the original IMHO. Like everything that Bananarama did, their version sounds like it was done on the cheap.
