Oh well, I'll start a new one So here are two songs I've written recently. Finally learnt how to use my software a bit better. Both songs have lyrics. Which means I'm singing. It's bearable, just be prepared for one or two painful little bits Would love to know what you think (apart from the horrible recording quality) A Very Serious Country Song Wide Awake
Very good, can't believe you disabled the download button preventing us from piracy. Toe tapper right from the start. More to follow I hope. This however is one thread I will not be uploading to, my voice is appaling and I can't even play the triangle.
No really.................... (thinking).....................no really I couldn't. And your voice is okay.
Here ya go, Mr Llama: http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92940 I'll leave it to you if you want to use mod magic to merge the threads.
Country song. Loved the idea and some of the observations. Went on a bit too long though. I think it could do with some of the better lyrics being condensed down into a shorter song so as to be more punchy. Wide awake. Liked that. Sounds a little Green day.
1) Yeah I think I need to stop ad libbing on it lol, then it'll be much more condensed. Also, it's not entirely easy to make out all the lyrics, so for those who are interested, here they are: 2) I noticed that too! The beat feels like a mix of When I Come Around and Hitchin' a Ride Thanks for the feedback, guys Recently been in touch with a double bass player, so things could get interesting
HELL you don't need a good singing voice ALL you need is to look COOL. Words to one of my "songs" Come on people grab your kits bring along a sword and stick Move your ass and move it quick get down to makotokai. When you get there don't despair cos most of the guys don't got no hair One thinks he has a mustache but it isn't there down at makotokai Your gonna see them hammering each other aiki bunnies are running for cover cos the teacher there is a mean mother..... down at makotokai. There are about another dozen verses all sang with the voice of an angel.
Ok man I'm diggin' the country song. There are quite a few things it reminds me of. In a good way. A few things you might be able to draw inspiration from - not all necessarily country - but you can hear the influence. Most of them are non standard vocals - whatever that means. Lyrically all of them to me really are something unique: M. Ward - never goes wrong for me. I find his mix of lyrics and sound one of the most interesting: Requiem [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIMVxQy0mCU"]YouTube- M. Ward : "Requiem"[/ame] To Go Home - the lyrics on this one are superb - one of those songs that oddly enough chokes me up no end. I have no idea why. Maybe the whole fatalism of it. I probably shouldn't muck up this thread with skads of YouTube vids. But hopefully you'll find something you dig in there. If nothing else... inspiration. lol or you could think it all sucks too. :hat: If this is the wrong thread for this I can just delete and post this in the 'what I'm listening to thread' as well.
I saw rave on and I thought HELL NO nobody should touch a Buddy Holly song..and found I liked it. Don't know how to download but Man of constant sorry by the Soggy Bottom Boys is brilliant. From the movie oh brother where art thow. That's a hint slip. thanks koyo
Not trying to make this the Llamageddon show, but here's something I recorded a second ago. Jamming around an idea for a song in DADGAD tuning - mostly played around 9th-12th fret Here
I'm still interested (in this music stuff), but no means of joining in at the moment- will keep looking in 'til i get sorted.
Yo Llama - I just realised what the country song reminds me of - it's quite Frank Turner-ish (makes me think of "Nashville Tennessee" by him, which is a good thing cos it's his best song IMHO). Here's my contribution to the thread: as much of the Australian national anthem hat as I could do off the top of my head on a Saturday afternoon. http://www.zshare.net/audio/77661941fe14a8/
Heh heh, cheated and multi-tracked the vocals so I could do both parts - that's why the "backing vocalist" seems to be struggling on the high notes
Still cool. If I could be granted a wish it would be to either have a singing voice of play the piano. It must be nice at the end of the day to just sing to either yourself or your family. No chance of me learning, it is just not me.
I hate to ruin your fantasy but if your family is anything like mine, they didn't want me to sing, even when i was singing and playing semi-pro my dad's only comment upon listening to me play was "well i think you made a few mistakes there!". AAAAAAARGHHH! I remember seeing a film about Christy Moore (musical hero of mine) and he sat down to play one of his new songs to his mum in her home, man, she couldn't get out of there fast enough! So, if it happens to Christy Moore, at least i'm in good company.
I've just had a listen to Llama's original contributions and here is the verdict of the Welsh Jury- Country song, too long, some funny lines, needs a hook/Riff-bass? Wake up ?- Very Nice riff, still too long (should have ended at first pause about 2/3s of way through). Could sound really good as heavy Greenday/Radiohead/Nirvana kind of acoustic/electric thing. Watch your levels on recording, i guess this is a limit of the technology you've got? Sorry, but singing is not good, take advice and sing standing up and, if you can, play and record voice and guitar seperately to get the best of both. Someday soon i will post something of mine and you can tear me to bits. I've just grabbed Audacity so i'd quite like to try something with the dadgad thing? And i see you've had a go at Spancil Hill, one of the most popular when i was folk gigging and one of my personal faves. Oh yeah, and listen to this Tom Waits. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vEBPYfy1GM"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vEBPYfy1GM[/ame] Guitar courtesy of Marc Ribot. Have you come accross Iron and Wine, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9SmwC_ZX0I"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9SmwC_ZX0I[/ame] bit easy listening but nice banjo! Keep it up. P.S. thought the first M Ward track was excellent, will listen to rest of those soon!
