I agree with Skc_Wado 100 % on this DarthSamurai, either you accept this site has problems occassionally that you would actually be able to help solve with a small donation and have the patience to wait until it is resolved or you go to another one of those sites you so kindly praised above MAP above.

The admins are trying to solve this problem, they are doing this in their spare time and are doing it because they want too. And your complaining isn't helping them much.

The superiority complex doesn't suit you. A lot of people here probably know a lot more about physics and other specialist subjects than you do, and what was said was stated correctly without need of futher reference. The analogy that followed was then pretty apt at describing the real situation rather than the devious tactics you unfairly accused us moderators of using.

MAP has signed up over 20000 members over the years and has charged nothing. Nor has MAP resorted to intrusive adverts to keep the cash coming in. Rather the admins have managed to keep it running at their own expense for the entire time the site has been in existance. And for the most part it has been running exceptionally smoothly. You have been here for a short time, and your complaints are quite simply risiculous to longer-standing members.

You think any of us particularly care that you don't like how we're trying to ask for help? Don't make us laugh.

Quite simply, if all you're going to do is whine, we'd be better off without you. Just let me know if you'd like me to deactivate your account; it won't take more than a moment of my time and you won't have to waste your time or ours with any more pointless complaints.

We will save the site with or without your help. And we don't particularly care what other sites do to be honest, we will get the money we need our own way without compromising our overall goals for the site. And we'll still donate all money raised by our seminars to charity, something I doubt many other online communities can claim to do.

    Hi All,

I don't do flames very often and I'm not real good at them - but I intend to have a go....

I had a look at 'DarthSamurai' details...
    IF they are true...
He is 28 years old - hmmmm more like 15 or 16 I'd guess
Biography: I like to hurt people - WOW a real Martial Artist <SCARCASM>
Interests: Mass Murder and Cheesecake - OK got to say he can't be all bad - he likes Cheesecake but the 'Mass Murder' line is just juvenile .

'Darth' I can call you Darth can't I? GROW UP - $17.40 is either Nothing in which case pay or it's something that you genuinely can't afford (and since MAP is Internet and the Internet is worldwide there could certainly be people on this forum to whom $17.40 is a significant amount of money!!!) in which case, don't pay but keep out of the issue.

All you do is come across like a mean spirited kid - if that's what you are, then why not grow up and learn that it's better to do good and help people - that's what martial arts is actually about - helping people. Yes of course it's OK to help yourself TOO - but for life (and MAP) it's about being part of the community giving and taking in balance.

See - I said I was useless at flames - I find myself having gone from anger at 'DarthSamurai' to sympathy for him - he probably just doesn't 'get it'.

    All the best.

    Robert.

DarthSamurai if you don't like MAP so much why do you post on it?

    So you're here, why?

No, bullshido just has 50 zillion ads per page and a freaking flaming demand at the top of each page asking why people haven't become supporting members. They may not hit you with at an error message, they just smack you across the face with it every page you go to. Whoopie.

    Darth, just a quick idea..

Be part of a solution rather than adding to the problem.

I think my internet must not be working right, nearly every website I've been on is emblazoned with ads, pop-ups and 'begging' me to join them in order to view members only sections (though I think with the latter is because all those naked women need money to buy clothes with :p).

Okay, fine MAP isn't working as well as we want it to or as 'smoothly', but it's staff and members are working together to rectify that. It might not be as flashy and brightly coloured as other MA sites, but, in my opinion, it is the people who use and run MAP that make it what it is - the best.

Noone is forcing you to become a member and you won't start losing access to stuff by not becoming one. You will however start losing face if you continue with your whining and put downs.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but why not add some uninvasive adds to the site? I know Google Ads tend to be pretty on topic and don't create pop-ups.

Seriously, I highly doubt anyone on this site would care if there were a few banners advertising martial arts gear.

Here speaks someone who obviously has never tried to read the PBP on a Pride event on Sherdog, or was there when the influx of new UFC fans hit it post TUF series 1. Sherdog had the same problems MAP does now, but worse - guess what they did to fix it: they rammed ad pages in, have sidebar and topbar ads AND they have "Insider" memberships which are like MAP's sponsored members.
Also, for someone who's trying to come across as clever, would it kill you to use some grammar?

Many sites, at least of the worth while ones, in most any topic have offering of premium memberships or ads, or both...it's hardly uncommon, and for people that get a lot out of a site, it's worth the meager sum for the memberships usually.

I hardly think it's something worth getting all snotty about.

Get off the WAAAAmbulance! Both of those sites have supporting memberships, and have had them way longer than us.

OK, lets look at Bullshido and Sherdog... what'd you see...Adverts. Here we have one banner at the top of the page. We could have the site covered in ads if we want to, but we don't. We aren't in this to make money. We've had ads and pop ups in the past (that would be before the whole 5 minutes you've been here), and it sucked more than you do.

As for nowhere near as big as them http://www.big-boards.com/kw/martial-arts/

We've been having these messages on and off since 2004. Its only now they've got really bad.

Incidentally, the problems are steming from the fact we only had a few thousand members when we last upgraded 2 years ago, so a small server was adequete. My new PDA has more RAM than our server at the moment.

As I said elsewhere here, no-one has to donate (other people have even offered help without donating), but STFU with the complaining if you don't want to. Either that or GTFO and save us the bandwidth that way.

    Toodles.
