I'm probably changing to shotokan. The lessons are more convenient for me to get to than the wado I've done.
yet another to see the light! We've recently had some wado people move to our Shotokan class. It's pretty weird watching them do kata. It just doesn't look natural! Other than that they're all proficient; helps you see the crossover
The light?is this a joke or something?Shotokan its ok for competition(Deep stances and nice looking kata)but no kihon kumite,no oyo kumite,no idori,no tanto dori,no tachi dori,no good taisabaki,no good cosi sabaki
well as u know Shotokan is far for the original karate.Funakoshi change it ande then Nakayama Change it more and make it just a sport. Shotokan has so limited technique... And then ippon kumite, gohon kumite its a bit of joke.they attack with oi-zuki and they counter-attack with Gyaku-zuki lol..
Do I detect someone having an axe to grind?! Shotokan is pretty good for kumite and SD if you train it right. Ignore those sport people with their modified katas! THEY ARE FALSE PROPHETS! Oh, and if we're going to criticise a style, let's not generalise, eh? Ok, that's enough
Good for Kumite? For sport Kumite maybe but in a really situation oi-zuki doesn’t help you. Shotokan has limited techniques I am sorry
Am I imagining this or are you a wado ryu guy? From that perspective you sound a lot like a pot burning a crucifix on a kettle's front lawn.
*Jumps on the fence* No one was "bashing" Wado ryu here as KE said its all tongue in cheek comments. Each unto their own at the end of the day (and "borrow" what you can along the way). Shotokan and Wado may have different techniques, body dynamics, higher/lower stances, different ways of performing kata however at the end of the day WHO CARES? What techniques you pick up from one can be translated over to the other, respect the differences between the styles as both are equally effective for what they are. Now lets all have a big karate hug! No? Ok then
god damn it, remind me to use smileys when I make a joke. Some people here couldn't spot flippancy or sarcasm if it was shooting fireworks at them.
