What is the worst area to get hit with a shin kick?

In a life or death self defense situation, what area of the leg would you kick to put the other guy out of commission? I practice mainly thigh level kicks on the bag and while getting kicked in the thigh can completely deaden your leg and leave you limping around, I'm guessing there are much worse places to get a shin kick, like the knee or the ankle.

In the crotch surely? Life or death that's how I'd close the distance.

First of all a kick has to be set up so why haven't the punches already worked?
Head! Anywhere else it a long term stratagy that doesn't work from gym to street

To the sciatic nerve (preferably to the inside of the thigh or the back of the thigh). Kick that hard enough and you'll have an opponent limping or not being able to walk. And of course, if you miss the sciatic nerve, there's always the crotch.

Life or Death - Throw the hardest groin kick you can. Follow with the hardest head kick you can :p With ring-legal leg kicks, there's a number of options, depending on your aim. As Moi says, leg kicks are a long term strategy.

Hapuka has shown the most sensitive area to take a leg kick, the inner thigh. Knees to this area are horrible too. The outer thigh is much tougher, but easier to hit. Kicking the lower leg (below the knee) is very good for harming mobility and off-balancing/sweeping, but you're more likely to hit a hard area (like the opponents shin). Hitting the knee can be good if you do enough damage, but keep in mind the knee is a hard bony area and kicking into it full force will likely hurt your shin also.

I got kicked in the "belly" of the calf one time (while the dude had a hold of my other leg).
DAMN that was painful and resulted in a damage "knot" that stayed for weeks.
Not somewhere I'd like to get kicked again.

Why are we limited to leg kicks? If it was a life or death self defence situation and all I could do was kick, why not aim a little higher and smash some ribs, or if you're a southpaw, crush the liver?

Seems like an odd limitation to put on yourself.

Don't reckon a punchers chance against a heavy low kicker of equal skill

Two chances Daggers..a well placed Knock out or a lucky punch:)In fact the ko punchers are usually great low kickers ie Pornsaneh,Anawat, further back Superlek and Virapol:)

I asked my doorman friend what technique he found worked everytime and he said a head kick.
Morally wrong, not correct protocol etc.. But a tried and tested fact non the less

Awesome,I remember Terry O Neil of Shotakan/Movie fame saying the same thing way back in the 1980s,also Sityodtong camp always work the high kick knowing that if they are loosing the fight they always have a chance of a knock out right up to the final bell:)

A low kicker will beat a puncher of equal skill

I don't necessarily agree but that is what he states

?? You say my thoughts don't agree with yours when i say a low kicker would stand a better chance against a puncher then you post a vid proving my thoughts correct!
