    To be held at the Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh
    29th & 30th November 2003

    A grand and historic occasion, where the foremost researchers, practitioners and instructors of historical fencing and European Martial Arts gather from throughout the UK to share and promote their respective Art and abilities.
    An invitation to observe and/or participate open to all.


    Weekend Schedule as follows ~


    Friday 28th ~

    An informal social gathering to be held at the Theatre Royal Bar, located at the top of Leith Walk, beside the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre, from 8pm onwards.

    Saturday 29th ~

    9:30am ~ Doors open to the Gym, Edinburgh Academy for free fencing and training.
    10am - 12noon ~ Official BFHS Meeting to be held in the Mills Suite, Edinburgh Academy. Open to present elected representatives of member groups only.
    12noon - 1pm ~ Lunch break.
    1pm - 2.30pm ~ Fiore dei Liberi`s Spada a una Mano. A workshop presented by The Exiles on the principles and techniques of C15th single hand swordsmanship. This workshop shall cover footwork, general principles, sword posta, strikes of the sword and links to dagger and unarmed techniques as codified by the C15th Italian Master, Fiore Dei Liberi.
    2.30pm - 4pm ~ C19th Military Infantry Sabre. A workshop presented by Mr. Gareth Hunt of the Dawn Duellists Society, covering principles and characteristic techniques of the regimental sabre methods from the C19th. 4pm - 5pm ~ Free fencing and training.
    7:30pm Onwards ~ Official BFHS Dinner to be held at the Persevere Bar and Restaurant 398 Easter Road, Edinburgh (formal attire preferred), featuring the return of Mr. Donnelly`s celebrated Swordsman`s Pub Quiz.

    Sunday 30th ~

    10am ~ Doors open.
    10.30am - 12noon ~ Close Encounters. A workshop presented by the Linacre School of Defence on armed and unarmed combat, showing how both are one and the same Art, and how grappling and striking techniques may come in handy in sword fights and encounters with ruffians.
    12noon - 1pm ~ Lunch Break.
    1pm - 2:30pm ~ Guest speaker/workshop to be confirmed.
    2:30pm - 4pm ~ Of point and Edge. A workshop presented by Mo. Paul Macdonald of the Dawn Duellists Society and Macdonald Academy of Arms, covering the strategic considerations and technical actions of C18th Smallsword facing Backsword, employing effective actions and counters useful for both swordsmen engaged in such circumstances.
    4pm - 5pm ~ Free fencing and training.




    Workshop Costs ~ £20 per person admittance fee covers both days.

    Venues ~
    Edinburgh Academy ~ For the official meeting and both days activities, these shall take place at the Edinburgh Academy (Senior School), 42 Henderson Row, Edinburgh.

    A map of the buildings location is to be found under the `Prospectus` section of the website and enclosed with this letter.
    Entering the Senior School through the main entrance by foot or car, pass around by the right side of the main building with the pillared facade. The Gym is the large building directly to the right and rear of the main building, with ample free car parking space onsite.

    Persevere Bar and Restaurant ~ The Persevere is located at 398 Easter Road, near the end of that street. A map of the location can be found at

    A set price three course menu shall be served at £13 per head, with the choice of three dishes per course including a vegetarian option. The meal offer is strictly limited to 40 places.

    Accommodation ~ Please note that the Edinburgh Academy venue cannot offer free floor space accommodation for any of these nights. For those requiring accommodation, the following contacts are recommended, ~

    I'm taking my wife to the Bowie Concert on the Friday night but I am hoping to be able to make the Sat/Sun (wife's permission pending!) :rolleyes:
