And a fair point it is too. But I would also show that there is in fact a way round that problem. Simply collect enough minis to play games of Combat Patrol a.k.a. 40K in 40 Minutes. Scenery can be made for next to nothing with even basic skills and household stuff. You can even legally download a lot of the stuff you need for free, especially the rules systems and updates, scenarios etc for games like Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic etc.

btw, someone suggested earlier about making a Necromunda first person shooter. Aw yeah! I love Necromunda. I just wish that they'd release a proper second edition so that it is compatible with the 4th edition of 40K. We created a load of house rules in our group to do just that and also to simplify rules for cover, line of sight etc but we also do that for all the other games we play too.

Hah! I probably have your autograph from one of the mid nineties games days!

Probably. Get it on e-bay! It's gotta be worth at least -10p

Who remembers "The Knights of Outremer"?
    Chainsaw warrior?
    Thrud?
    Gobbledigook?
    Zoats?
    Jokaero?

There was a certain charm to all that stuff that still gives a warm feeling. :)

Yeh I prefer the specialist games, as I say is still play WQ with a friend everynow and then. I have Necro and Blood Bowl still but no one to play with. I'm gonna try and sell them on ebay when I can be bothered.

Aw yeah! I was only reading my copy of the Thrud graphic novel the other day as it happens. So funny. I even met Carl Critchlow once. Gobbledigook and his sidekick Nibl were hilarious.

Zoats I thought were a cool idea that got wasted. The Jokaero are still around to a degree as their digital weapons still appear in places like Codex Witch Hunters IIRC but without referring to them as Jokaero digital weapons.

Chainsaw Warrior was awesome, I loved that game. I was only looking at it the other day, on my shelf next to Rogue Trooper et al.

I remember Knights of Outremer but never owned it. Never had Railway Rivals or Superpower either but they were still good games.

    I loved Space Hulk.

Ah the early days of White Dwarf and Dragon Magazine. Hex paper and D20s and those green D&D character Sheets .... sniff ..... takes me back. I still have my first D&D Character stashed away.

Stuff the Dark Angels! Anyone can do well when you're clad in power armour and driving Land Raiders.

The Imperial Guard rules all despite the fact that they are everyday guys and girls, armed with little more than a slightly warm stick.

Dammit I might just pick up my brushes tonight. Maybe finish off my latest Ogryn squad. Or maybe I'll make a start on building the Baneblade? Brrrrrrrm, brrrrrrm, raise gun two zero degrees, adjust for target, FIRE!!!!

Used to play Warhammer in school. Stopped when I realised it was the most expensive hobby in the world, short of intravenous drug use...

might have a look and see if i can find a copy of the computer game, might be good for nostalgia's sake.

Hah! Anyone who waves a sword of that size around clearly has issues over the size of his pee pee.

Have you seen how big my Baneblade is? Oh, erm, hang on..... :D

The thing is, I agree with those who say that this hobby is pretty expensive and I know that puts it out of the reach of people at times. But it's also tremendously rewarding and I've made some long-standing friends because at the end of the day, it's a very sociable hobby if you do it right.

That really is something of an understatement.

The figures are worth more than their weight in gold...

Possibly you could credit Games Workshop with discovering the secrets of alchemy...

I dread to think how much we've spent on my son's stuff.

It's a good family activity for us. All of my lads, apart form the baby :D, have some miniatures of one type or another. It's a good rainy day type thing to do.

Plus I find painting really good for de-stressing er except when it’s doing robes, I hate robes, which is a bugger considering my main army :D

Yes, that's it exactly. It's fun and it's something that families can even do together which can be pretty rare these days. Hell, even my girlfriend plays 40K on occasion (Orks) and it's a better evening than watching the TV (although we don't actually own one but you get my point, eh?).

Robes are easy Spooky. Invest in a couple of ink washes and you'll end up loving them.

For some odd reason me and bleachedbone just don't work well together!

I've started using Dheneb Stone and Khemri Brown as my first couple of layers but it always gets screwed with the bleachedbone :bang: :bang:

Thin your paints and use more layers instead of one thick one. The lighter colours like bone are a pain in the donkey. But saying that, I use Bleached Bone for my Eldar weapons and equipment without altering the paint at all.

One base colour, ink wash over the top and bam, you're done. All you need if you just want minis to game with. Sure, spend more time on those special minis but otherwise just crank them out. When you play Imperial Guard, you just gotta production line 'em!

I do I do. Bloody 6 layers at the last count on the veterans! It's that the finish is always naff on the bleached bone. I even got new paint just in case it had gone bad.

That's because they are cannon fodder that don't deserve the to share the same table top as my nobel Angels, unless of course they bring the Banebalde then we don't mind :D

Trade secret Spooky. Paint doesn't go bad. That's GW propaganda. Ssh, don't tell anyone, okay?

Believe me when I say that right now in my paint box are Citadel Colour paints which predate Warhammer 40K 1st Edition. They are still in use to this day and they are perfect. I am still using paints right out of the old Space Marine Paint Set, The Expert Paint Set (the first inks) and the Metallic Paint Set. They're downstairs right now, still in the original boxes dating way back to the late 1980s; I'm still using them and they are still working just fine after almost two decades. Of course my most frequently used paints like Chaos Black and Codex Grey get replaced on a regular basis.

And six coats? Three max if you do it right, including an ink or thinned paint wash.

Hey, speaking of old GW products, who remembers Dark Future? Great game.
