One of my teachers: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1ZZshbAOQM"]Shuai Jiao Chinese Wrestling Techniques 1 - YouTube[/ame]
I think the contents of the video should suffice any viewer's determination whether it qualifies as 'good kungfu' or not. That being said, I think he gives some useful explanations for throwing techniques and applying leverage.
simple and direct examples of how to bridge at distance, then close the distance by moving behind the bridge, then to control the bridged limb, then force an opening, and then finish the opponent. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eych9PqwUtU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eych9PqwUtU[/ame]
again? It looks interesting Tom but I have a hard time being convinced by demo's that rely on someone working against a student who is unlikely to be as experienced or willing to pop their teacher in the snout. That was one good thing about point fighting tournaments, at least you saw black belts from different systems willing to have a go at hitting each other. FWIW LFD
You make two very good points. I am not sure that anyone necessarily need be convinced of anything. In my opinion different examples can legitimately show different aspects of good kung fu. I like the above example because it is a good demonstration of principle. I agree that it is a poor example of practice because the partners are compliant.
I really like master master su dong chen... I think the guy has the "juice" so to speak. If I may shamefully plug my own video : [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZ9vGvdm30g"]Hung Gar Concepts 6 - YouTube[/ame]
pardon? I'm confused. You have a vid of someone teaching hung gar concepts. Su Dong Chen is a Taiwaniese Internal stylist doing BagHua Tai Chi and XingYi... Are you confusing two people or is the vid a mistake? Is the video connected to your comments on Master Su Dong Chen? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlkIys9GHYQ&feature=youtu.be[/ame] Thanks LFD
Oh...sorry for the confusion, I was saying how I respect master Su. But separately and also in the spirit of this thread (ala Good Kung Fu) ...I made a shameful plug and put my own video up.
I listen to anyone and everyone until I have a reason not to do so. I know of/about Subitai having been around KFO for probably ~ 20 years. I assume that you didn't notice that Subitai edited his comment after I had made my comment so it is clearer what the relationship was between what he was saying and the video at hand. Was there some reason that you thought I should be listening specifically to him? As I already said I try to see what anyone has to add to the mix, even you. :' D LFD
Thanks for the clarification. It wasn't clear whether the video was of yourself or someone you trained with or the Master you were discussing. Funny, but I don't think I could put faces to many of the names of people on here or other sites, even the ones that I have met occasionally. Unfortunate side effect of having to see a continuous stream of patients for 3 decades... Now we know what you look like... ;' ) Thanks for sharing. LFD
Ok here's are vids of kung fu that's not too bad although the 2nd and 3rd vids are losses. I partly think that the step up in competition and the change of venue might have done his head in a bit... believed in the ole ''chi will protect me'' nonsense and the like.. see what you all think! Yi Long is someone who has come a long way in a short time. I believe Yi Long now has racked up quite a few victories against quite a few Muay Thai top contenders and a few American and Thai champions. He also had rematch against muay thai champion Adrienne Grotte (your 2nd video above) and beat him. There are a few losses but he's got a winning record at this point (I think anyway). That one video of him getting knocked out on purpose was I think one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a ring, one part brave and one part silly. Watch the last video and the vicious knee knockout! This fellow has great cross selection of skills and puts some meat back on the bone for kung fu, if you get my drift [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgA-SoVD0Ro"]latest Yi Long Fight : Sanda Vs Muay Thai : Yi long KO Adrien Grotte - YouTube[/ame] [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRrJHpqc0aw"]WLF !!! I particularly like the joy in kung fu and in the sharing of knowledge that bubbles out of this video. There is also an economy and efficiency of movement that you only see with some one who really knows what they are doing. That just happens to be one of my favorite videos. That is my school's website that this comes from. And a small bit of that footage is from him coming to seminar(s) at my school. Yes, his lively stepping and the crispness in his moves, especially at that age, inspires me in my practice all the time. He is one of the three lineages of CLF our GM studied from. And the only Tai Chi Chuan one. I so wish I had studied martial arts at an age where I could have studied from him when he came to us for seminars.
Nicely shot, nicely edited, nicely explained and nicely done. And the musics kind of catchy. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLTeXN8Na5c"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLTeXN8Na5c[/ame]
