Get a real teacher with real qualifications, from the sound of it nether of your prev teachers were properly experienced.
There are a few examples of what can be called trapping in MMA but you have to.know what you are looking for
Wing Chun is the nucleus - this is pretty much accpeted. However there is so much that is not in Wing Chun that IS found in JKD the theory falls flat The core arts are Wing Chun, Boxing and Fencing - this then further expanded as Bruce gained subsequent exposure, but claiming it as a reading of ANYTHING misses the whole point of what JKD sought
Just my 2 cents. Jkd has ''no fixed style'' and due to this it makes it very effective and lethal. One is not bound by a ridgid fixed fighting techniques positions. What i use is a combination of everything which i find works for me. The front blast lead jab, rear jab, step forward slightly to the outside, left hand around the back of neck, moving your weight on your lead leg at the same time pull opponent down, and bring your rear knee up and force your opponent into your knee, knee as many times as you feel is needed then pull the opponent down to the ground, i aways like to go outside of the opponent for control / takedown, Obviously i wouldn't actually hit my training partner, after all jkd training is semi contact. I don't take it serious as some professionals, to me it's about having fun with my training partner where we can both enjoy and learn and build up ourselves and each others confidence and abbilities. Once you have this the whole class grows better. Kind of hard for to explain moves as i've not done it for 17 years, but i'm looking forward to getting back into it...
I really, REALLY do not know where to start with this one......but "nope, nope, nope" will suffice for now
I know it's frustrating but just writing "nope, nope, nope" isn't really helping the guy or anyone who comes across this thread looking for advice or knowledge. Go on fella, help the guy out!
Fair call. Being as old as you are you have a lot of knowledge and experience. share the wisdom. Teach him about chi-balls and bo staffs too.
Gotta ask though, does it even matter what JKD is or isn't? I've never really understood the purpose of the debate or even have an answer to the question beyond, "a martial that Lee put together". As long as you enjoy your training, your instructor is legit and the training suits your needs...isn't everything else a waste of time worry about? I have the feeling I've missed the obvious but...
"I have not invented a "new style," composite, modified or otherwise that is set within distinct form as apart from "this" method or "that" method. On the contrary, I hope to free my followers from clinging to styles, patterns, or molds. Remember that Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which to see "ourselves". . . Jeet Kune Do is not an organized institution that one can be a member of. Either you understand or you don't, and that is that" - Bruce Lee
I also think you need to understand what Bruce Lee meant by the classical mess. For me the "Original JKD" guys are stuck in this classical mess. So even JKD sometimes isn't. I no longer do JKD, but at the same time am more JKD than I ever was. So as Hannibal says, "you either understand that, or you don't".
Most of the guys that do JKD best aren't JKD guys (Also Sijo said it rather than me, but I will take the rub )
If one needs to know what jkd is lets ask dan inosanto . I'm going to watch this, not seen it before. Dan Inosanto - Explanations on What is JKD? [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8elFXMOjKJc"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8elFXMOjKJc[/ame] I hope this clears things up, the master has spoken dan said bruce woud catch him like he was in slow motion like a bad dream such an amasing guy. P.s you can still bicker away, it's just fun conversation.
Dan said the base of jkd is jung fan, so learn that and then add to it. Jkd is your own custom taylored martial art.
I think you are probably attached a little bit too much to the idea of what something is or is not. :bow1:
