One of the better Thai guys at my place today hit me with his lead leg but not to the inside of my thigh he stepped out more and hit me right on my quad above my knee and was one of the worst "dead leg" feelings ive ever felt. After getting hit with it it makes me want to add it to my game for some variety. Anyone use this or know any fighters that do? Anything to execute this move better would help thank you

Im reading your post as being a leg kick from the lead leg, not a front kick, am I right? In this case, just practice your kicks using front leg/switch/regular, both to inside and outside of the thigh. Over time, you will get comfortable enough with all variations to adjust them into whatever you need :) For a kick to land with the shin across the front of the leg/ribs rather than the side its just a matter of keeping the kicking leg more folded, and stepping across a little more before the kick (line up with the front of target, not the side).
