He using what is commonly known as a Bachar ladder. Used originally by climber John Bachar as a way to train strength and conditioning for rock climbing. In principle it can function pretty much the same as rings and TRX systems. There will be some differences... but overall... it's a pretty useful tool. They can be made rather easily with some static chord and pvc tubing. It's definitely not a hi-tech bit of gear. No doubt they're in use by the military for different needs as well. Here go some tips on the Bachar ladder and how to make one and use one... as you can see... it's really down to your creativity:

Here's some good shots for ideas of how to put one together:

As you might have guessed it definitely in use at CrossFit gyms:

They can even be used by laying them on the floor... in fact... insanely overpriced ladders that are similar are sold to rugby, football and college sports teams the world over for lateral motion drills.
A great tool for sure... but why buy some overpriced non load bearing one when you can have an actual Bachar ladder that you can use for both purposes?! Here's some vids of those drills... fun stuff really:

Doing ladder drills are great for agility and speed. I use them in my training.

Yeah ya know... I've been playing more hoop recently... and as dangerous as a game as it is... :D.... I can see why they do lots of these types of drills as well. The friggen ability to change laterally while traveling is hard on the hips. The constant acceleration and deceleration up and down the court is a mad crazy workout on the legs but also on the hips... ouch.

So yeah I've worked in a few as well. I figure they can't hurt from a boxing standpoint.
