Sorry I know this is 6 months old, but Oliver Brunton from NI should be considered too. 7th Dan, Wado Ryu, started training in 1962.
That's interesting, as I understand it; the first Wado-ryu schools in the UK were started by Suzuki sensei in 1965. Do you know where Mr Brunton was taught Wado-ryu in 1962? I know Mr Brunton is a frequent traveller to Japan, but I am not aware of him having trained out there in the early 60's. Gary
Not sure mate. His bio always says he started training in Shotokan in 1959, then started training in Wado in 1962. The only other thing it mentions is he studied karate in England before bringing it back to Northern Ireland. Some info about his background: http://www.irishkarate.com/history_of_NIKW.htm http://www.britishkaratefederation.co.uk/about/board-members/oliver-brunton/
Happy to stand corrected, but I'm pretty sure that no one was teaching Wado-Ryu in the UK in 1962. Gary
