What're things you think you/we should live by in our every day lives, not just as martial artists but as in general?

    I'll put down a few:

I will not attack others who are not present to defend themselves.
    Plan tommorrow's work today.
Never let anyone upset or anger me.
Accept when picking up one end of the stick, you automatically pick up the other end.
Never swear in front of ladies - chilvary isn't dead is it? :D

Be open minded about things. The way I do it may work for me but it may not be the best and it may not work for others.

Do not put others down because they aren't just like me or because they don't do things the same way I do.

Be open minded about techniques from other systems... steal what works for you and observe what doesn't... these can be shared later or avoided.

    Hurt no one if possible

Be sorry for something you did. Don't be sorry for something you did not do.

Treat other people as I would want to be treated.
See the humanity and the divinity in all people.
Don't judge others by their appearance.
Don't worry about anything I am powerless to change.

    Keep on striving Bon.... ;)

... as in one's own personal "tenets" I suppose

Don't compare myself to the best others can do, but to the best I can do (directed towards training mostly)

There is always 2 sides to every story ... (I'm a mom what can I say??)

    Think before I act

To control my attitude otherwise it controls me

Sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel

    To trust my instincts

Don't let possessions “own” me. It’s just stuff … and the most valuable things in life – friends, respect, love, knowledge – don’t cost money…

To be grateful for what I do have. Not to waste today in anticipation of some grander tomorrow. Now is all we’ve got… live in it!

Always keep playing. Who says adults have to give up their toys? Keep the little child inside you alive… it keeps your imagination primed. Silly is good!

    It starts here and now
because we can't always count on Tomorrow

If the old is not dicarded, there is no room for the new
    Because I walk,it becomes a Path
    If I don't,weeds will grow

Practise non action, work without doing, taste the tasteless
Magnify the small, increase the few
    Reward bittness with care
    See simplicity in the complicated
    Acheive greatness in little things.

    We never really know
How we look from behind,do we?

gojuman you are so right. You can't waste time worrying about what others have believed or heard about you. If you are righteous in your actions you will sleep easy at night.

Be careful about your priorities. What do you want to remember in your old age, that you spent time with people you love and doing things you love, or that you had the cleanest floors in the neighborhood? Do you want your children to remember that you always had time for them, or that there was never a speck of dust in the house?

Let unimportant opinions roll off your back like water off a duck.

Never give up (hear that in the dojo a lot).

OMG... so true KT!! ... actually that has been my credo after I had my third child... on top of training and everything else...

I am now the proud owner of the neighborhood's most dirtiest of floors!!:D
