That's not a pheonix eye fist, the pheonix eye is used by extending the index or middle finger's knuckle out so it's the sole knuckle protruding from the hand.

What gbells is talking about is different, we call that a Lohan fist, it's a method used when punching with a vertical fist, which uses different bone structure and muscle. I've used it many time and it works quite well, never received any injury and find it more effective for certain punches.
Otherwise it's across the first two fingers like everyone else stated.

Since I sat there last night making a "squirrel fist" I guess I'd be one of them :Alien:

Did you just make the fist or did you apply it in combat?

Place your hands either side of your opponent's head (by the temples will suffice), grip tightly and then force your free thumbs into his eye sockets... :D

Hey ID If I'm not mistaken I thought the middle knuckle protrusion was called the ginger fist.

It's not the same as karate's one-knuckle fist at all is it?

I use a virtical fist with the thumb pressing down on the top finger, this way you have a rock solid fist as all your fingers are pressed together even harder.

Not familiar with that, but if either the knuckle of the index or middle finger are the sole one extended for focuse strikes, then it is.

Btw, sorry to double post, I just wanted to ask if anyone ever has ever heard of a kung-fu school that uses the donkey fist? I heard it's popular in some schools.

Just a question to thos KF guys that have different fists for different strikes - do you guys ever apply those fists to a contact strike - say in a sparring type situation etc?
