The debate for and against "chi"

    Well, I guess the way I stated it was not so correct, if you do hold your breath it's for a brief millisecond or more of a tight exhale, but not a gulp-the-air-I'm-going-under like you do when swimming. Breathing out with a "wooosh" type of breathe when you hit the ground would knock the wind out of you.

    I agree with you that you definitely need to breathe out when weight training.

    No, a breathing out with a whoosh nevered had knocked me, or fellow martial artists I have work out with.

    From the many martial artists I had the pleasure of working out with, from many arts and practices (including qi gong) breathing out was paramount (to be on par with breathing in)

    And if breathing out is required for weight lifting, makes sense to breathe out for any other stressful situations
