Not that exciting a story....when I moved back to Manchester the Police instructor was Matt Clempner (Judo, Sambo, Wrestling and ROSS) and he introduced me to Steve Crutchley who was a JKD guy under Steve Powell as well as a Sambo and ROSS instructor

Ah, right! Yeah I know of all those guys. interesting Nexus between the JKD and Jujitsu/judo, wrestling heritage of the north.

That is probably because ROSS is considered an external style and Systema is supposed to go beyond that and is considered internal style with no belts. So saying you know the external basic version of judo and sambo makes sense judging by most of your posts, but not knowing or being able to do the internal version or Systema seems to disqualify you from making a comparison.

See that point? You missed it son

Seriously I could eat alphabites cereal and puke a more cogent argument than that bilge

Pick a softer target because I have forgotten more than you know

    You wish !

I watched some ROSS videos, they were pathetic to say the least.

They looked like bad karate and judo done at half speed with compliant opponents who were told what to do and they still had to force the moves the moves to make them work, what is this rubbish, I hope you put ROSS in your things to forget. If I learned things like that I would forget them too. :hat:

I'd like to see effective systema. Can you show me?

Also I'm interested in what you feel is basic about judo and SAMBO.

What is your background? I'd got the impression you were a TCMA practitioner?

That is a very good point.

Systema videos show a very highly refined level of compliance. Those guys don't have to force anything, because the students are so well primed to throw themselves around at the slightest hint of being touched. They make Aikido demos look like MMA.

Comparing Systema to other arts by compliance is the weirdest argument I think I've seen on MAP, and that bar is set very high!

Suggesting an art is more effective for self defence because it is an internal art is not the strongest of arguments

Avenger and string arguments are diametrically opposed

Let's just say anyone considering ROSS compliant but lauding Systema as a self defense system is either deluded or trolling

I definitely would that say aikido students are compliant, but most systema videos look like seminars of people trying it out and not long time compliant students.

Have you trained in Systema, or just seen videos?

    ROSS is the BOSS :)

So, you want to know what is a good martial art for self defense:

Simply eliminate those that state they have:

    "no nonsense"

    "comprehensive"

    "____dan black belt instructor"

"hand to hand of ______Special Forces"

    Did I miss any?

Hannibal's coach has a military programme.

    Care to re-visit your statements.

For someone who seems to believe they have the answers you post the most vague comments.

To dismiss someone because they use the term "no nonsense" is ridiculous.

If I use dunc's appraisal of my MAP Meet session should I be totally discredited.

    Exactly,
A bit more positivity would be appreciated, sometimes.

I was looking for the absurd, far fetch claims/phrases in teaching self defense out there
