Hi all! So...what is the greatest Gangsta film of all time? :woo: You are only allowed one answer...and you must give an explanation of why choosing this film as the greatest Gangsta film of all time... I think that the greatest Gangsta film ever made was the Godfather...why? I have chosen the Godfather because the story is unique. It gives you a true insight of what it was like to be in their shoes. Excellent acting (Al Pacino - unbelievable) and Marlon Brando is also quality in this film. It also displays moral attributes in the film such as: loyalty, self sacrifice, love, honor with terrible corruption, cruelty, unthinkable violence...and most of all - power, which help create the effect that you are there... So people...what do you think is the greatest Gangsta film and why? Cheers Macca
The Godfather is not a movie about "gangstas," it is a film about an organized crime family. The term "gangstERS" would be more acceptable. Mafia Films (Gangsters): The Godfather Goodfellas Casino Urban Youth Films (Gangstas): Menace II Society Boyz n the Hood South Central There is a distinction.
Godfather for sure, I must have watched the trilogy like over 50 times. It is truly a classic because you will never get bored of it. Just like I could never get bored watching terminator 1 and 2. Havent seen 3 heard it was only good with the chick in it.
Election (2005) I recently saw a great gangster (actually, Triad) film from Hong Kong. From a review originally written for a friends webpage" Keep an eye out for it. Election did well in Hong Kong, so I expect it may show up here on DVD or in art House theatres before long. A sequel is already underway (heck, by now it’s likely in post production).
(STER)casino- was that the one Joe stabbed that guy in the neck with a pen? nuff said. (STA) Friday- not sure if it counts but it cracked me up
To go a little away from the traditional gangsta norm i would have to say SNATCH and LOCK STOCK. Two of the best films ever made IMHO.
I always liked Sergio Leone's attempt to break away from the western genre, Once Upon a Time in America.
My friends home movie ...oooh I said too much already I dont know where to start as I love gangster films,I loved the old George Raft and James Cagney films as a small child ...they were fun ...
I was just about to say the same! There very different to the classic Hollywood Gangster film. English ones always seem to come over more criminal than gangster Layer Cake is another good one!
Personally, Goodfellas is my favourite, mainly coz I havent yet seen ALL of the Godfather films yet (been living in a small cave for long long time). But The Godfather (1) is an excellent film....think I might hire the others this evening...
