Personally I use about 4 types of footwork to throw a roundkick. Handily I've named them stationary, step, skip and sprint. I use all four depending on circumstance...if I need to make ground up, what I've thrown beforehand, how stunned my opponent is etc. They get progressively more telegraphed but also make up more distance and increase power.
