    Hi all,

I thought this might be better suited to this forum than the TKD one

Just a quick question, what exactly is Soo Bahk Do? I have looked a bit on the net and i am very confused

Is it just another name for Tang Soo Do?

Or is it like TKD? If so what is the difference between the two styles?

    Cheers
    :)

    Topher allo!

It's just another name for Tang Soo Do.

I heard that when Hwang Kee was unable to register "Tang Soo Do" with the Korean goverment because it 'sounded' too Chinese, he change it to Soo Bahk Do. (I have no idea as to the validity of that being the reason for him changing it) Anyway, some school still use the name Tang Soo Do, either by choice or because the left the Moo Duk Kwan before the name change.

The name change came about in 1960. They used "Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan" up till then. The name change is supposed to reflect the added material from GM Hwang Kee's interpretations of the Moo Ye Dobo Dong Ji.
