    Hey.

On Sunday morning I slipped on ice and fell down a cement stairway. I'm lucky I didn't break anything, but I am in some pain and I have quals for my next kyu a week from Friday. The pain is deep and located in my lower back on the right side, and in my neck and traps on the left side. Poking and prodding doesn't produce any pain; only bending at the waist in the first case and turning my head to the right in the second case. The doctor who checked me out suggested I had strained the muscles in those areas and that I might have a bruised hip. He suggested ice and heat, ibuprofen, and stretching. I have also been applying tiger balm.

Can anyone recommend anything further that I might do to heal up for next Friday?

    Thanks.

Not a doctor but I find I heal much faster if I keep the injured part active at moderate speed and light load. Light sparring or rolling works. Plenty of sleep aids recovery as we'll.
