    My point here was be that the style of fighting they were then practising was not really useful for combat and thus did not meet your then definition. I bet that when they moved to full contact they took timing and speed and experience from the other game, but they had a shift to make in terms of range and what they could get away with.

    With regard to your other comment - I'm not personally a fan of Kata training except for solo training and injury management. But I prefer light contact or full contact dynamic or alive bunkai training to point fighting when it comes to preparing a person for real fighting. :)
