Hi, I was thinking of starting to do Goju-Ryu karate. I am most likely going to visit the place this week, but was just wondering if anyone here does it and has any thoughts on it and how they like it. This specific place seems very traditional, do most Goju-Ryu schools involve sparring, because that is something I definitely want to do. Also, how does American Kenpo compare to Goju-Ryu?

Yes, goju ryu involves sparring. In fact every karate style involves sparring. Don't know anything about the kenpo thing though.

If memory serves me ... Sensei Yamagucci (Japaneese Goju) was the one who started adding sparring to curriculum. All others follwed his lead. MOST karate style (traditional or sport) add some sort of sparring. Sport will tend to focus on a hit ANYWHERE whereas Traditional will tend to focus on a hit in strategic spot.
